Steve Lickert set to be named the new Holmes Coach!

Featured Replies

I still think it is one of the worst. However, with that said, if Lickert wants to step up the ranks and possibly get with some of the elite big school programs he will have to show he can coach at the big schools. I am sure this was soley a professional move for him and I am sure it was very tough having to meet with those Greendevil players to tell them the news. He was very well liked in D-town and will be missed. Good luck with the fiasco at Holmes.

Are you saying that he is looking at this as a Stepping Stone job?

Are you saying that he is looking at this as a Stepping Stone job?

yes... do you think when he started coaching he said "I am going to coach at Holmes one day"?

OR...I want to spend my entire career at Holmes.

Interesting......

I was under the impression the hiring powers were looking for someone who would stay for a while.

Who says a 27 year old coach can't stay a while and still use Holmes as a "stepping stone"?

One thing people don't get, most jobs are "stepping stones" for coaches...

But wouldn you think a coach would finish one " step" before moving to another.

What are you talking about?

Three years might seem like a long time to some and short for others for developing a program. Do you think he was finished with developing Dayton?

You make an excellent point. I see exactly what you are saying.

I think a more common perception of "stepping stone" job would be that one stays there for a short time while trying to work toward something better.

No one should ever be faulted for trying to better themselves. I myself have "higher" ambitions.

I was just under a different impression concerning what the hiring folks wanted for this position.

A coach comes in and lays the foundation for success and leaves for a better opportunity and you can't say, "Thanks coach, our kids worked harder than ever on the football field and in the classroom because of you. Our kids were successful on the football field because of you. Our boys are becoming men because of you. I'm glad my Principal took a "chance" on a young enthusiastic coach like you because it definitely paid off."

You'd rather say, three years wasn't long enough. Coach, welcome to the thankless part of coaching...

He did nothing but what was right for those kids and you still have a problem...

Yes i agree with bettering your own perfesional situation but just wanted to see people's opinions of if they thought it was a "better" choice to leave Dayton. Holmes is in a bigger division but Dayton is reaching their prime and with the new divisions should cause some big talk this year.

Exactly...

Dayton was definitely a 'stepping stone job' and most small schools like it probably will be for a long time. Keep in mind that every job can be a 'stepping stone', just ask Kerry Coombs...

No no no problem i agree with bettering your own situation and agree with the change but wanted to see if other people felt that it was the better choice than to stay "see mess. above"

If I'm coach, part of my decision would've been based on 3, 4, 5, or 6 years from now. Who's in the better situation?

If that were the case; Dayton will definately be in the better position, 3, 4, 5, or 6 years from now. Presumably, Beechwood will move up to AA, where there will be more competition and that will leave Dayton in a very winnable district every year.

Unless there will be another numbers crunching session to redistrict teams, Holmes is still going to play Highlands and Cov Cath (am I wrong on this).
