theguru Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Various sources are reporting to me that Dayton's Steve Lickert will be named the new head football coach at Holmes. Congrats Coach Lickert! :dancingpa
1&ONLY44 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Congrats to Coah Lickert-who else was in the running & who will take over @ Dayton now?
IMACS Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Where is Lickert from? What is his coaching history?
Oldbird Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Where is Lickert from? What is his coaching history? Played at Highlands and Georgetown. 1st head coaching position was at Dayton.
Henry521 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Congrats to Steve. Holmes is getting a great coach and an even better person.:thumb:
mexitucky Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 If Steve can get the kids in Covington to buy in like he did in Dayton, he'll have a very strong program in the next couple of years. Steve will get the most of his players, I only hope that he can get the best players to come out. If anyone can, it is Steve.
katbird Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Congrats Steve!!!!!!!!! :dancingpa :dancingpa
bulldog77 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 I love it when talent meets a challenge head on. Lickert is a strong willed coach and doesn't back off. He'll need every bit of that but if he shows those kids he really does care about them as people AND football players, he'll get them out. The rest is all coaching and we all know he can do that. Make all of us old Bulldogs proud, Congrats Steve!!

Make all of us old Bulldogs proud, Congrats Steve!! It will take much, much more than just Steve's strong will. Every administrator and every teacher in that high school must be willing to encourage and support the athletes to go out for the team and stick with it. Every involved parent must make a concerted effort to encourage the uninvolved parents to get involved (easier said than done, acknowledged) and to support their kids. Success in athletics can do a wonderful thing for a high school. It builds pride and a feeling of accomplishment than can spread like wildfire. In a school like Holmes, with the bad pr they've dealt with recently, some success on the grid iron can do wonders. I truly hope that every administrator, every teacher, every coach, a lot of parents and the civic leaders of Covington realize how important it is for Steve to be a success. Past alums must get involved. The Englemon (sp?) boy at Michigan must be willing to come back to the school and encourage the kids to play and keep their nose clean. If however those folks sit back and count on Steve being able to do it all, they will be part of the reason why he won't succeed.

futurecoach Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Very good hire for Holmes! I know as I said this is a job that I know if I had more coaching experience I would have loved to have, because it brings a great challeng but it could also lead to great rewards. I think Coach Lickert is a kind of coach that can turn this thing around, and I think this is one of the best people Holmes could have got!!! So congrats to Holmes and Lickert on the hired, and I wish the best of luck to all involved!:thumb:
gamer31 Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Thats the best news I've heard all day!! If anyone can get them all on the same page and accomplish great team goals, its Steve!!
