March 25, 200719 yr I think Pouncy missing the t-heels first game really hurt them. My NKy Firehawks bounced back from a horrid first game to go 2-2 and we're just to tired to maintain a lead against the NKy Nets in the 4th quarter of the tourny saturday night. It was a good tourny and alot of teams played well.

So who made it to the finals. I understand Somerset won again but who made it from the bottom bracket? I heard about the Central Ballers coach, that was the same referee that threw out the Rockets coach vs the Richmond Stars. The referee was just horrible and his partner the lady with the long hair was very inconsistent and wouldnt call anything under the bucket. This guy T'd up the Rockets coach once which he deserved but the 2nd was ridiculous. He was sitting and all he said was that's a foul. He looked over and T'd him up and said your out of here. So this same referee threw 2 coaches out in the same day. Think he was trying to be the big show? I do. Oh, then a Rockets player in the same game tossed a ball to the lady referee who let it slip between her hands and it hit her in the nose. She immediately T'd him up, it was ridiculous. No way was it intentional, she was just embarrassed and mad and gave us our 3rd Technical of the day. I don't mind if they arent going to call it tight or if they want to call it tight but maintain some consistency. Call it that way the whole game. There were referees calling it tight for 3 quarters and then the 4th quarter kids were getting bludgeoned and nothing called. They obviously were running on time schedules and trying to get the games over. Overall, still a fun experience but someone needs to get with that referee and let him know its about the kids and not his time to shine by tossing people. I also loved how they always seemed to wait to see if a shot would fall before they would blow the whistle. It was like, if the shot goes, we don't call anything but everytime the shot was missed the whistle blew 2 seconds after the foul.

I was just told the Nets made it to the 'ship and lost by a handfull or so. Yes I agree, I watched alot of games saturday and none of the officiating wasn't very good. A few of the crews had one good ref and then another who seemed to be in a daze and then some were downright awful.
March 26, 200719 yr Author Who was some of the top rising players in the D-1 and D-2 tournament. Its hard to know the kids' names but every team playing in the tournament had very nice players and deserved to be there. Many of those kids it will be interesting to see where they end up playing high school ball. I am hearing that the NKY Nets and Cambpell co Kings will merge next year. They both played in the D-2 final four with the Nets advancing so that should make them a D-1 team for next year's tournaments. I also wonder if Somerset will move up to D-1 after winning 2 straight D-2 championships? Many of the Rockets are playing Spring Ball 2 nights a week and we are hoping to put together a Spring tournament at Highlands Middle School. If any coaches with 12U teams are interested PM me.
March 26, 200719 yr The firehawks were in our pool and they were solid, the PG was solid and never ran out of gas. Sturdily built kid. Pretty good club!

March 26, 200719 yr Author Is this just going to be for 12 and unders or are you opening it up to all age groups? Probably just 12U due to limited time. We can get the Middle school anytime we want so no reason why we cant get other age groups involved at some point this spring/summer. We can possibly coordinate something as long as you can get other teams in your age group.

I've also heard this and if it's true the team should no doubt move up to d2, somerset should also move up after dominating the tounry the last two years. I can throw that out there to our coach and i'll get back to you. Also the Firehawks are in a tourny in Mason County this weekend does anyone have any details on it?

We played mason co on Friday night. They have a guard who wore goggles who played hard and drove hard to the hoop. They also have the big lefthander, Chambers who is solid as well. Glad to see you all are playing more tournaments. Good luck and let us know how the tourney goes.
March 26, 200719 yr Thanks, I'm gonna try to make it down there but if not i'll post scores and tell it how i hear it. Hopefully the lefty wont give us to much trouble, both of our bigs are ambidextrous (sp).
March 27, 200719 yr Who was some of the top rising players in the D-1 and D-2 tournament. Wow! What a week of basketball. This past week was basketball heaven for the avid fan (NCAA tourney, sweet sixteen, and AAU 12U/ 6th grade state tourney at the KBA). The only problem was trying to see them all, but loving that Fri. thru Sun. was non-stop basketball. First, I would like to congratulate The Ville and the Somerset Future for winning the AAU state tournament D1 and D2 respectively. I would also like to congratulate the Georgetown Thunder and the N. Ky Nets for 2nd place in D1 and D2. Now, who were some of the top players in the D1 and D2 state tournament? Well, I am going to start with D1. The players I am going to comment about are on The Ville, Georgetown Thunder, and N. Ky Tarheels. I saw the Rising Stars play some, but I did not get to watch the Lex. Trotter so I will not comment on there players. The Ville were in a class by themselves. Loaded with talent at each position. The best inside player in the state tourney was #45 Hatcher. He was a monster in the middle. The definition in his arms makes you wonder if he is a 6th grader, but my sources in Louisville confirm that he is ligitimate. Along with Hatcher is #2 Hicks who played the PF position. These two young men were very tough to defend. They say Hicks is from Shelby Co. , but is new to AAU. The PG # 1 ( I think his name is Jones ) was very smart with the ball and knew when to score or when to dish for the assist. These 3 from The Ville would make my all tournament team. Since The Ville won the championship game by 20+ points I will add a fourth player. Sanders (from Laurel Co.) was a very solid player and deserves to be mentioned. The Georgetown Thunder were lead by Monroe. This left handed guard can play. He has been with the Thunder for a few years now and continues to get better. Another player that has been with the Thunder since the beginning is Portwood. A very solid PF that can move to the perimeter if necessary. The Thunders center McFarland (from Lexington) could hold his own against any big man in the state. He got into foul trouble in a few games. The N. Ky Tarheels were a very strong team. They were my pick to play against The Ville in the championship game, but due to the point system they were knocked out by the Thunder (not to take anything away from the Thunder). It was almost like deja vu seeing Hatton (5th grader) launch 3 pointers from NBA range like he did last week in the 11U state. Jones SF (Louisville) and Lowery PG(Cincinnati) also played well. The 2 players from the Rising Stars that played well in the one game I got to watch were the PG Clay and the big man Robinson. To sum up the D1 state tournament, it was The Ville 5-0 (in a class by themselves) and the Thunder, Tarheels, and Rising Stars each going 2-2 with the Thunder winning the point system to get to the championship game. I will comment on D2 tomorrow.

I had heard that Somerset was planning on playing D1 this year until there big man broke his arm and was out for the season. I would expect them to play D1 next year.
