February 26, 200719 yr I beleive UK has some talent on this year's team, just something else is missing. To steal a line from The Replacements...."Heart, miles and miles of heart."
February 26, 200719 yr Maybe just maybe if he can win and NBA title which I don't think he ever will I would say its a good hire. Who wants a team that is fun to watch in the season and then loses in the playoffs every year? How long has he been a coach in the NBA? I think since he's been there they've improved every year. Nash wasn't putting up those numbers when he played w/ another very very good team. It's easy to pick against them to win the title, but I would be shocked if they don't win it if they stay healthy. I think they would have won it if Amare played last year.
February 26, 200719 yr This is D'Antoni's 2nd stint as an NBA head coach, and he has been with the Suns for the past 3 years. The first year was their best year and when they completey dominated the regular season... The second year, Amare spent almost the entire season injured. This year, they were on a great pace but Nash's injury knocked them off a little bit. His first stint as a head coach was in the late 90s with the Nuggets.... They were nothing special. And you can't compare the tournament runs in the NBA to the NCAA tournament... I'd take D'Antoni in a one-and-done tournament more often tha not. In a 7 game series, though, I'll usually take the other guy on the sidelines.
February 26, 200719 yr Does he have the personel to run his system? Not even close, IMO. That 180 would be two years in the making, IMO. It would be well worth the wait. I can't wait for the Smith era to end.

February 27, 200719 yr Author I'm hearing this was on a Washington, DC sports show yesterday as well. Apparently, since D'antoni is from WV, he and his wife will move back and that his brother, a current asst at Phoenix is coming early and the staff from the Suns will be the next staff at Kentucky. This is however a rumor and there is no way to know if this is the truth, but it's coming from a sports radio show.
February 27, 200719 yr I am going to save this thread just in case so some odd reason this happens. And we will look back in a few years and I will say I told you so. We still won't have any final fours or Championships becuase his teams play ZERO defense and in college that just won't cut it.
February 27, 200719 yr Author I don't have a link, sorry C-A-T-S. It is all "rumor"... like I have said in everything that I have posted. Three different "sources" have reported this, the first seeming a little bit "sketchy," but the other information came from sports radio stations, with XM and a station in Wash. DC.
February 27, 200719 yr In addition to all this, where is D'Antoni without Bryan Colangelo as a talent evaluator?
February 27, 200719 yr Author In addition to all this, where is D'Antoni without Bryan Colangelo as a talent evaluator? Good question... But maybe he just decides to get the top players in the country via Scout and Rivals and hope for the best..
February 27, 200719 yr In addition to all this, where is D'Antoni without Bryan Colangelo as a talent evaluator? I think the most important thing a head coach can do is surround himself with great assistants. To me that is the biggest difference between Pitino and Smith.

February 27, 200719 yr Smith was a Pitino assistant.... I agree with you though. Right and he is a good coach and was a good coach at UK for a number of years but things seem to have slipped away from him. I don't think Smith is a bad guy or a bad coach but in this day and age 10 years is a long time to keep people happy and I feel it is time for a change.
