Talent or coaching? Or both?

What Yeagle did at Beechwood was a nearly miraculous thing. .

Not if you were playing in his district.

If your'e saying it is a weak district, you don't know anything about it. This district has been one of the best in the state w/BHS/NCC in the finals almost every yr since 1991. Don't forget that Lloyd played 1A in the early 90's w/superb talent.

^ You also said that talent trumps coaching, and that is not necessarily the case....we often beat teams more talented than us...sometimes quite handily as well.

Sure.

Back to the Trinity has no talent argument.

I will stick to what I said, more often than not talent trumps coaching. It isn't popular idea on a message board filled with many coaches, but I believe it firmly.

He's a NCC fan and alum. Calm down...

Just a little piece of trivia for you all. Prior to Holy Cross starting their football program and joining the NKY 1A district, this was the only district in the state, regardless of size, where each team (Beechwood, NCC, Ludlow, Dayton and Bellevue and Lloyd) had all won a state title in football. I just thought I'd throw that in there for good measure.

Right. You need to stop listening to your own propaganda.

If no talent currently exists....Coaching will prevail in time. If talent is in place, Coaching will only enhance and improve.

Talent makes average coaches good....good coaches great and great coaches, champions.

I have to disagree with that statement, good coaching helps, no doubt, but in order to be sucessful anywhere you must have players. To get players you must have support from the top. If Lloyd will really go all out for Yeagle, he will win, if they only support him minimally, then he will have decent respectable teams, nothing like he had at Beechwood. Support is the key to winning!

I didn't say talent trumps coaching. I didn't have an opinion one way or the other on it. My post was in response to the one that mentioned the competition in the district.

Support off the field, doesn't translate to success on the field.

Players must be taught, fundamentals and if they are good, then somewhere along progression, they have been taught by a Coach and nothing to do, with Administration.

Kids don't just wake-up one day and learn to play the game.

Support off the field does translate to success on the field. Who do you think hires and gives the coaches all the facilities, money, etc. necessary to become a success? THE ADMINISTRATION, and FAMILIES that support the program, thats who!

I'm of reasonable intelligence and fairly informed, with regards to school administration and coaching....

Administration can hire whomever they want, but unless that person knows fundamentals and techniques of the sport, with an ability to instill that into players, there will be no success. Mommies and Daddies, can yell and clap all they want, but that in no way translates to success on the field.

State of the art facilities, money and a massive crowd support, does not help the kids learn the game, skills and techniques....That comes from Coaches.

Agree 100% Strike3 and at Lloyd they have, since Coach T retired brought in 2 coaches that should make them winners. Coach Lucas may not have quite gotten to "the mountain top" but he certainly changed the program. At Lloyd you have good athletes year in and year out, a supportive administration, and decent facilities. Coach Yeagle, I feel can make all 3 better. The district they are in is tough (HC, NCC, Newport) but Lloyd can field teams with superior athletes in some years than those three. The exceptional coach will put them over the top. look for Lloyd to become a powerhouse in a few years .
