The Lexington Christian Academy Eagles (1-1) return home Friday night for the toughest challenge on their schedule as they host the Christian Academy of Louisville Centurions (2-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Lexington Christian Academy.

LCA opened the season with a convincing 28-7 victory over North Hardin but is coming off a 7-0 shutout loss to Pulaski County. The Eagles now face a CAL team that has looked dominant through every phase of the season's first two weeks.

The Centurions opened the year with a 41-0 win over Pikeville and followed that with a 52-0 victory over Owensboro. Through two games, CAL has outscored opponents 93-0 and has reportedly reached running-clock situations before halftime in every contest, including preseason scrimmages. At this point, CAL hasn't simply won games, it has overwhelmed everyone it has played.

Matchups to Watch

The biggest question entering Friday night is whether LCA can keep the game competitive for four quarters.

The Eagles showed in Week 1 they can handle a quality opponent, but after being shut out by Pulaski County, there are legitimate questions. Those questions become even more significant against a CAL team that has not allowed a single point through its first two games.

Another storyline will be the battle at the line of scrimmage. CAL has been the more physical team in every game it has played this season, controlling opponents on both sides of the ball and forcing games into running-clock territory. LCA will need to find a way to match that physicality and avoid falling behind early.

The Centurions have shown the ability to stretch defenses vertically with explosive athletes on the outside, while also maintaining a physical and efficient running game. That combination has put opposing defenses in a difficult position all season. Defenses that commit extra resources to stopping the run have been vulnerable to big plays through the air, while those focused on limiting CAL's speed on the perimeter have struggled to hold up against the rushing attack. Through two games, opponents have yet to find an answer,

Through two weeks, CAL has looked like a legitimate state championship contender regardless of classification. The Centurions have yet to be seriously challenged and have outscored opponents by 93 points. Meanwhile, LCA is trying to bounce back from a loss against Pulaski County and prove it belongs on the field with one of Kentucky's elite programs.

The question entering Friday night isn't whether CAL is one of the state's top teams. The question is whether LCA can do what no opponent has been able to do so far this season: make the Centurions play a competitive four-quarter football game.

Louisville wins the battle of Christan Academies.

This will be the last game between these two schools until the 29-30 cycle at the earliest. This has always been a competitive game, with last year being an anomaly, so I hate to see this series end for now. LCA will not be a pushover. They are loaded with talent as well so this will be a tough test for CAL. I'm hoping for 4 good quarters of football this Friday.

Whelan needs to bounce back in a big way if LCA hopes to even keep it competitive with Burke, Brown, Hobbs, and however many other FBS bodies CAL is going to roll out.

He can't just be good, he needs to be great.

I don't believe this game will be close, and CAL could (probably will) put a running clock on LCA.
