Pete Carroll to the Chargers?

Featured Replies

There is a rumor that just hit the net that Pete Carroll might receive an offer to coach the Chargers. There is nothing concrete at this point, just a rumor as far as I can tell.

Interesting...

He's in a perfect situation at USC, and he has said numerous times in the past that he has no intentions on leaving for the NFL. However, with all the scandals swirling around USC, I wonder if he'll consider it this time? I don't think his style and personality will work in the NFL. He's a college coach.

I think he's a good college coach, as well but the speculation is that he'd be most likely to go to the Chargers since he'd still be basically "at home". I guess in the end, money talks and the NFL definately has the money.

If I was Pete Carroll and I was looking at ANY NFL jobs, this would be the one that I'd have to consider long and hard.

My very first call would be to NC to see if Cowher is tired of retirement yet. And then move on from there.

They owe Marty 4 million this year, so there isn't as much money there as you think. At least not in year 1...

Well this is the first I actually have heard of this rumor...But it dont suprise me at all, because it was pretty obvious that Carroll would be a guy that the Chargers definitely would consider, and that was why I was the first guy to even mention his name before any of these rumors came about...:D

NFL owners are mega-rich guys these days. There is plenty of money to spend, its just a matter if they want to spend it. I think Carroll is a good fit.

I don't see Carroll going anywhere

Carroll made the comment last year that he'd only want to come back with "total control" which obviously means personnel/GM as well. He won't get that in SD with this ownership IMO. He'll stay rich and employed in USC.

I'm sure Carroll has had quite a few offers and just turned them down for a myriad of reasons.

As stated above, he would want complete control and he would not get that in San Diego.

Carroll seems to be choice number one for all of these NFL owners, like PC said, he get's 12 first round picks a year at USC.

I would think he would be the sensible #1 choice. He's in a win/win situation IMO. Stay at USC where he's getting the best players out of high school or go to San Diego where you have the best offensive and arguably best defensive player in football not to mention arguably the most talented team in the league. Oh yeh either way he's on the left coast!

I think it would be interesting to see if he could pry Norm Chow away from Tenn even though he signed a new deal. You have your back out of the backfield to throw the ball too, the best TE in football (which is what Chow's offense is built around) and he coached Rivers at NC State.
