Taylor Gover, Al's nephew has really provided a presence on the bench this year assisting.  Taylor was a great HS player at Pulaski Co.  and had a good college career at The University of the Cumberlands.

Good basketball seems to be in the Gover family's DNA.  Al's older brother Greg was a little behind me at Somerset and was a very good player.  Neither of them are very big but they worked around it by being great ball handlers and shooters.

  • The 12th Region Tournament field is set after tonight: Danville Christian, Boyle Co., West Jessamine, East Jessamine, Somerset, Rockcastle Co., Somerset Christian and Southwestern.

  • I’d like to see a breakdown of what happened in that game.  It was a pretty low scoring affair. When discussing the coaching we shouldn’t focus on Wayne County and dismiss Al Gover’s performance

  • Lincoln/DCA and Boyle/Garrard should make for a fun night of basketball.

Hats off to the Cougars. They had a good game plan and stuck with it without getting rattled. It was a classic game of one team playing loose with nothing to lose and the other team playing tighter and tighter as the game went on. Even though Wayne was up two at the half, I felt like they were in trouble when the teams came out of the locker room by the demeanor of the teams. My crew sitting around me felt the same way. Wayne looked like they were down 10. Wayne could never get into a flow in the 2nd half and that's a credit to SCC.

This one will sting for a while but still proud of what Wayne accomplished this year. I've listened to 12th region sports some, read here and on other social media and sometimes I think people forget what all this team has endured this season. Obviously losing a teammate in Cayleb Rice, Korbyn Edwards blowing out his knee, Rylan Morgan missing 6 games with a broken wrist and trying to learn the PG position which is a tall order without missing games, Ryder Bell blowing out his knee again and Seth Farmer finishing the season with an injured left wrist. On top of that, in the back of their mind, they knew if they lost this game last night that the comments from people they know in real life, would start on social media as soon as the horn sounded. And the comments much like "Rodney Woods would've won this game!" did start before the players got out of the locker room. I'm not making excuses because all teams deal with injuries and the like, but this is quite a bit for just one season for a bunch of teenagers.

First time since 1987 that neither team is in the 12th Region tournament.

That makes last night seem even more unbelievable.

First time since 1987 then that there hasn't been either Rodney Woods or a Fraley coaching in the 12 region tournament as well.

Two be clear, Wayne and Pulaski have each missed the tournament a few times over the years. This will be the first year since 1987 that neither team is playing.

Greg is a great guy, and spent a number of years working with FCA.

I’ll throw out another possible scenario. If Lincoln is unable to get past DCA tonight, when was last time Lincoln, Wayne, and Pulaski all missed the region tournament?

I believe Coach Jackson has only missed it twice since taking over Lincoln Co. in 2003.

Never, although Lincoln didn't consolidate until 1974-75. Both Pulaski and Wayne missed the 1976 tournament while Lincoln made it, but lost to Somerset in the first round.

Four times - 2005, 2010, 2018, and 2024. The first three years he lost to Danville in the district. The Patriots lost to Boyle in the semifinals in 2024.

I think Somerset is the favorite to win it now with DCA a close 2nd.  Neither team is dominant though to a point that they could still get knocked off by anyone on any given night. In order to win region a team needs to have really good guard play and be able to lock up in man to man half court defense.  If your team doesn't possess those two things then it is hard to win 3 games in the region tourney.

Hearing a 12th region job is opening soon (maybe even right now).  Stay tuned, could create a ripple effect within the region.

Something is brewing in the 12th.
