We have now seen similar things now for two years under Pope. Bad defense, and getting down double digits a lot. Last years team did play hard consistently, but you expect that when you have like five fifth year seniors. Which makes this even more worrisome, because shows Pope struggles getting younger players to buy in to doing all the little things correctly and consistently. 
 

As for recruits for next year. UK only has two seniors this year. So technically the whole UK team for the most part could return. Which is probably part of the reason why no recruits yet. Unfortunately the other reason seems to be Pope struggled at closing when recruiting. Which makes sense, he doesn’t have a record of being a coach that wins, and not a track record of being a coach who gets guys into the nba. Popes biggest and really only selling point is this is UK, and they have money to pay guys. 
 

I do think Pope will get at least one more year. The good news for him, is with how college basketball is. He could literally have a whole brand new roster next year if he wants.  So he could have one last chance to prove he deserves to be here.

Who do you anticipate returning from this year's team? I know rosters are always in flux, but if I were guessing:

Yes

Maybe

• Collin Chandler
• Braydon Hawthorne
• Jasper Johnson, only because his UK family ties. I'd probably lean closer to no than yes
• Reece Potter
• Kam Williams

No

• Mo Dioubate
• Brandon Garrison
• Andrija Jelavic
• Jaland Lowe
• Trent Noah
• Jayden Quaintance

The others are either walkons or are listed as seniors.

The KHSAA needs to be on alert for the high probability that UK hosts an NIT game.

If you're going to keep JJ because of family ties, why hasn't Pope gone after Jake Feldhaus, he could actually help the program.

I wouldn't worry about that, UK could play that game at Memorial, it would hold the crowd.

The more I think about this game, the more disgusting it becomes. That looked like a reversion to mid December UK. Ugly in every way.

As someone else said, they'd put the game in Memorial.  I'm not sure if we'd even accept an NIT bid if we didn't make the NCAAs.  IMO we SHOULD play in it for the sake of getting wins and if these guys are gonna come back, then they need reps in something.

But this happened in 2009 when we played UNLV in Memorial.  That was kind of cool, actually.

I've been saying this for 2 months and everyone acts like it's not a big deal. Yes they will be able to get talented players in the transfer portal, but that's not always a recipe for success.

After thinking on this some more. Unless UK on a magical deep run. I think you have to atleast behind the scenes try to reach out to some of the top coaches to see if there is any chance they would consider coming if the UK job were to open up again. If so then I think you have to move on from Pope even just after two years. As we have now seen the same issues two years in a row, and Pope has zero resume to fall back on to show he will get it figured out even with more time.
