Dixie QB Mason Fields commits to Louisville

Does NIL pay money to every player on teams including walk ons? As with college football that is a lot of players to pay with how many players are on a college football roster.

I didn't think teams had walk-ins when they bumped scholarships to 115.

Smart move on his part. Wouldn’t surprise if he’s heading there as a PWO. Louisville currently has 7 QB on roster and 7 TEs on roster and they have a 4 star QB coming in. I'm sure he saw his offer bre

NIL will take care of him.

Louisville is not throwing NIL $ to a walk on. They got guys they are prioritizing.

I agree and after all the money is handed out I wonder if players end up having to pay for anything, especially at the QB position.

He’s prolly paying minimal out of pocket. Helps that he has really good grades and high test scores so he’s gonna get a lot of KHEAS money and Depending on his FAFSA, he may even qualify to get Pell.

Another Division 1 athlete graduating from DHHS, yet we haven’t seen a winning record since this coach took over.

Brach Rice plays for Miami, Ohio. Graduated two years ago from Dixie.

For this current year, I thought they increased the roster limit to 105 and the scholarships to 105? The school has the option to give 105 scholarships though.

I’m almost certain it’s 85 scholarships for FBS, 63 for FCS.

He may have to pay a little bit out of pocket. But it’s prolly way less than Hillsdale.

I doubt it’s cheaper. D2 stack academic and athletic money. The can give basically full rides, which is what I would assume he had at Hillsdale.

That raises questions in my mind.

KEES is capped at 2500 a year MAX, for up to 4 years. That's with a 4.0 GPA and 28+(I think?) ACT. Which, any free money is great but KEES does not go very far at public 4 year schools.

That’s fair! But it’ll go a lot further at a public university in Kentucky than a private school in  Michigan

I know there has been a lot on X / Twitter about D2 and NAIA and guys having to take that pathway.  I think what we are seeing and what JuanHenry is alluding to is that if you can get one of those 105 spots at the P4 level even as a PWO you will come out better financially (at least in state).  This isn't hard to track... Hillsdale can give the equivalent of 36 Full Rides (not all D2's actually give the full 36) that can be broken up.  Let's assume the starting QB takes a full.  Now you are down to 35 to split between about 100 other guys.  I imagine a kid like Mason got a 1/3 to at most probably a 1/2 athletic ride at his position, which is a great scholarship for a kid who hasn't played a down of college football.  Hillsdale's cost of attendance is over $50,000.  Louisville's is less than half that... plus the KHES money...plus whatever state academic scholarships he qualifies for and you can start to see why a lot of these kids are opting for the PWO route.

I'm sure he saw his offer breakdown at Hillsdale and realized that it would be cheaper for him to go Walk On at Louisville than be on scholarship, especially with him being a really good student.

Hillsdale starting QB and backup are returning. Most likely would’ve been a scout team player up there. He’s better off going to UL and being a scout team player there than Hillsdale.

I see him being at Louisville for a year or two and then he’ll enter the portal.

Louisville currently only has three QBs on the roster I believe... Brady Allen, Mason Mims and Deuce Adams all entered the portal and won't be returning.
