This is another interesting element for Stein. Hopefully the new person doesn't come in and want to clean house.

  • I’m just glad it wasn’t Hartline. I can live with Stein. Will has his work cut out for him.

  • Mitch knows he is retiring soon ?   I think UK football was in a situation where they had to go outside the box.  I think it's a good gamble...but only time will tell.   UK football is in de

  • I know you asked @futurecoach but I'll give my opinion. Hartline and Stein were 1A 1B for me. The benefit of getting Hartline would be his dominance in the pipeline that we are already recruiting. Ste

The recruiting definitely is a big factor. I like the consistent development we have seen of Hartline’s position players. I like who he has learned from as a player and a coach in regards to running a team and offensively. As he has been with Urban, Day, Chip Kelly was also on staff a year ago.

I think both are good, but I just think Hartline presented a chance to possibly truly knock it out of the park.

Kentucky never has players like Hartline has been blessed to work with at Ohio State. It's a big difference.

Outside of personal pride, he’d get his contract paid out.

Oregon Co-Defensive Coordinator Chris Hampton is coming with Stein to UK to be the defensive coordinator.

Stein has been a coordinator at the P4 level for two years. Was coaching high school ball in Texas five years ago. There's really no comparison in resume/experience with him and Hartline.

Maybe not but he is now the head coach and everyone is supporting him including myself!

This is a risky hire IMO. Zero head coaching experience. What other SEC team would hire Stein? He may turn out great but the resume looks below standard to become an SEC head coach. Hopefully UK is ahead of the curve on an up and coming young coach.

It is risky, but I think these are the kinds of hires UK football has to make.  I would rather take the risk than have a retread.  That's just me though.

As you should.

You still have to coach them up. Still have to teach them how to run routes, etc. Yes OSU gets great players, and one of the reasons why OSU now seems to always get the top WR recruits every year, is cause of the job and reputation of Hartline helping those WRs reach their highest potential.

Not to mention Chris Stein isn’t going to most likely be getting the same talented players here as he worked with at Oregon.

As I said I’m not upset about Chris Stein hiring. However, there was a lot more Check boxes and experience that Hartline checked off over Stein. If they were going to go with a guy that hasn’t been a HC before.

This is a concept many haven’t grasp, likely due to their excitement.

Supposedly Will is hiring Justin Burke as the new offensive coordinstor. Justin played at Louisville. He is currently the offensive coordinator at UTSA.

Thanks for clarification. What I had read was wrong.

I think it’s an evolving situation. There will be a lot out there until everything is finalized, which won’t be for weeks.
