  • Given your previous prodigious prognostications through the years, I would think South Warren would be happy to see this post.

  • South Warren has never lost a state final in their three previous appearances.  But they're about to meet the unstoppable force.  Trinity hasn't lost in a state final since 2009.

  • Good call.

Hope Ryle can get healthy for this one. They have a really good group of seniors. South Warren is well coached. Jami Deberry is on their staff- he was the special teams coordinator at Indiana state with Mike Sanford Sr and WKU with Mike Sanford JR, he also coached at southern Illinois for a short stent. SW will be well coached especially in special teams, which is an underrated area in High school football.

I will be cheering for Ryle in this one, but it should be a good match up.

Is it just me or in NKY football over rated.  Outside of Beechwood, they never seem to get the job done.  Sure there will be a good Cov. Cath or Highlands team that will make a run, but compared to all the noise NKY makes, they don't really seem to do much come playoffs.

Just really tough in 6A where Louisville schools have dominated the largest class for years and Bullitt East that won is in Louisville Metro area. A few teams outside of Louisville have won over the years but just not very often. Then in 4A have the beast Boyle County to contend with. Tough sledding for Cooper in 5A with powers Owensboro and Bowling Green. 1A have to contend with Pikeville and Raceland. CAL seems to have 3A locked up plus they are another Louisville school. Beechwood year in year out is Northern Kentucky's best option for now. Not counting Northern Kentucky out but definitely not easy to get a championship. Highlands has a great freshman class so maybe they get a championship in a couple of years.

It'll be a long trip to Bowling Green from Ryle... Spartans get it done on home turf 28-24

Would’ve enjoyed a football game last night in the dense fog we had here in town. Friday night will be a cold one but a clear night. I don’t think South will run away with this one, however if the Raiders don’t have Savage suited up ready to go as some of the commenters have mentioned this one could get out of hand. I don’t think Coach Smith is buying into that sort of rat poison anyways, they’ll be expecting #21 to have 20 carries. Which to me will be the most exciting part of this matchup, will that Spartans interior blow up the middle repeatedly because they have the personnel to do just that. Spartans making a statement in their inaugural season in 6A, don’t think it stops Friday evening either.

I agree with this comment, but it still baffles me the fraternity that is NKY football. They act like they are the best area in the whole state of KY for football, but yet areas like Louisville and South Central KY consistently beat them.

What’s baffling about rooting for kids and teams from your area? Also, I’m not aware of a single person in NKY that thinks NKY is the best in the whole state and I know a lot of people…not one.

There is nothing wrong with it at all.  I love community support and think that is what makes high school sports, especially football, so special.

Ha, ok. You did state it was baffling, though. Glad that’s been cleared up.

Agreed. Outside of a few I do not think this is the norm. Anytime I am in another state for clinics or in my travels for work, I will hype up our state as one of the most underrated and under-recruited areas of the country. For instance, when those guys from TX ask "who you got up there" or "have you seen our stadiums?" I simply point to the Louisville area and mention all our blue bloods here. Then I tell them don't confuse your crowd sizes with being good at football. I don't know any elitist about NKY football, but sure I support our teams up here. To that end, I'll support Corbin when and if they go to TN or WV, I'll support Woodford in California, and CovCath in Ohio, or Trinity when they got to Indianapolis. It's all love.

So this game... I cannot wait to watch it but this is where I jump off the Raider Ship (for those of you that don't remember, I live in Ryle's school district).  No matter the health of Ryle, I am going with South Warren.  The Spartans have been consistent all year.  Other than last week against Douglass, the Raiders have found a way to lose close games.  Plus, the game is at South Warren.  Give me SW, close.

SW 17-7

Teams left in semifinals:

Louisville 5

N. Ky. 3

Lexington 3 ... kind of, do Franklin and Woodford count?

Jami Deberry is from Franklin and was the QB for Franklin-Simpson in 1999. That was the last FS team that beat Bowling Green. FS lost a heartbreaker to Owensboro in the region finals 16-15.
