Agreed I just shook my head every time Boyle would shift to overload and Cov Cath did the same thing.

You don't have to have a D1 caliber D to be a good D. I am baffled with certain coaching decisions. Period.

Let me be very clear- it's never the kid's fault. I blame the coaches who are the ones who are supposed to make the adjustments. EE has won at CCH. He is a heck of a coach. But next year we need a dynamic offense that does not just run the ball almost every play. 

As far as the defense is concerned, I am not saying staff changes are needed. Adjustments need to be had and the focal point needs to be stopping the run!

 

Haddix/Boyle’s offensive staff does a great job on shifts and motions.

They would line up and get the defensive strength with Cov Cath’s best DL(Lind) and edge (Pitzer) set and then shift and motion to the weak side and run right at the much smaller and non future college players. Then physically overwhelm the edge (who is a nickel on the ball vs condensed formations) and the back is running on the safety. Recipe for disaster. 

Unfortunately, you can’t use a Jimmies/Joes argument as a coach when you refuse to play your 6’4 220 pound recruit who was big and athletic enough to get offered by an SEC school prior to his sophomore year. Extremely frustrating to not have a chance to compete athletically out there.

When Boyle needed it the most they ran this play time after time the entire season.  This was nothing surprising as they constantly ran it in other key games they played.  Everyone knew with the shift who and where the ball was going but no one has successfully stopped it.

You're right about, I haven't, but I PROUD to call the Coach who has my Son. I can promise you no one puts in more time and preparation, not only during the season but year around then Terry Brown does. Funny how last year when Covcath beat a great Boyle team in the playoffs he was good enough coach then. Congratulations on a very good year Colonels, and good luck to Boyle the rest of the season.

Gotta utilize your personnel too. If you’re struggling against the run? What can we do differently? They have blitzes in their defensive playbook.

Maybe, just maybe, Boyle was better than CCH. Just like last year, when maybe, CCH was better. Amazing.

He got a few more afterwards and Ray did a really good job staying on him. One of the passes was off a tad but he was there. The other Ray covered him like a blanket. Those are the ones that come to mind.

 

I also thought Ray did a decent job covering him on that touchdown throw but the pass was thrown to where only Bradshaw could catch it and well, he made an exceptional catch!
