I think Mayfield matches up better with OC than LCA so there is some positive in this, if it holds.

It will be kind of cool being the first game at New Cath's new football field next season, if the schedule lines up the same way next year.

As Lee Corso says, “Not So Fast My Friend”

Don’t be surprised if Beechwood doesn’t swap out that NCC game with a Marquee matchup, that while may not be a huge RPI boost, it will be a matchup of premier programs from 2 different states, that will feature 2 of the best players in Greater Cincinnati!

That’s all the details I can give ?

If it lines up the same way NCC's first home game would be vs Lloyd.

Due to RPI I don't know if either happen though.

Ah yes, I forgot Beechwood played NCC in week 2. Beechwood's opener but game 2 for NCC.

Mayfield can only play Owensboro Catholic in the state championship game. The state is split into east and west for round 3 seeding. That puts Mayfield at LCA in round 3.

Until RPI corrections are made, I hope Coach Volker does not knowingly set the Tigers up for one of those 6 hour playoff trips in 2026.  Weak 6 team District plus out of state game equals 2023 season rinse and repeat.

We know the path to the title now. RPI is set. It doesn't change in the playoffs so everyone knows where they sit in RPI. RPI impacts matchups and home field in rounds 3 and 4.

Likely Round 3:

East #4 Breathitt County at East #1 Belfry

East #3 Prestonsburg at East #2 Beechwood

West #4 Somerset at West #1 Owensboro Catholic

West #3 Mayfield at West #2 Lexington Christian

Likely Round 4 (Semifinals)

#4 Beechwood at #1 Owensboro Catholic

#3 Belfry at #2 winner of Mayfield/Lexington Christian

There are some good round 2 matchups and possible upsets that could change the round 3 opponents.

Danville at Somerset

Bracken County at Breathitt County

I love all the round 3 match ups wow...this is gonna be a epic round 3...let's do it go big red...

You hit it all on the nose. KHSAA is doing Beechwood a huge disservice.

This is not unique to Beechwood.

RPI is always a valid concern, but Beechwood didn’t play an Ohio team this year, and they are still hitting the road for a long semi final road trip. Beechwood returns the majority of their team next year, the starters this year played basically one or two games this year where they played the entire game, these kids want to play against good competition, Fryman, Queen, Pabst etc. want to showcase themselves against good competition, and as bad as the district slate is, you have to challenge your team in the 5 games you actually get to pick.
I understand your point, you have to play the RPI game, but at some point you have to give your kids something to get excited about, and playing running clock snoozers, where the starters are sitting on the bench for the majority of the 2nd half, doesn’t excite them or the coaches. If this game comes to fruition, it’s going to be a big time game for the Tigers.

Valid points, but plenty of NKy programs to accomplish the same…I.e .Highlands, Cooper, Ryle and they all bring RPI bonus with a W instead of an out of state RPI penalty.

Also, hard to argue that 2023 season opening win against a very good McNicholas might have cost the Tigers a state championship.
