This game will be kicked off at 7PM at Highlands High School

I was able to catch up with Coach Sphire for the BGP news after the game last night out at Cooper to have some questions.  Thought it was enlightening:

Frank:  Coach Sphire you guys played really well against Cooper and got a nice win.  You have Boyle County in 2 weeks, what will you take away from this game for that game.

Coach Sphire:  

 

Frank:  I get the fact that its on to Campbell County but you really performed well tonight and you got some really big competition in the next few weeks with Boyle, Elder, Cov Cath.  You got to come away from this game feeling very good about what the future might look like against those teams coming up.

Coach Sphire:  

 

Frank:  OK Coach I think I am hearing you loud and clear its onto Campbell County.  I will ask you a question then in regards to the upcoming match up against the Camels.  Will you be disappointed if you don't hit the running clock on Campbell County because of how well you performed this evening?

Coach Sphire:

OK well that interaction with Coach didn't go like I thought it would.  So let's discuss this game coming up in the Fort this coming Friday.

This series came back alive after a several year hiatus in 2013.  The Birds have dominated this series since then with one small blemish back in 2016 which if my memory serves me correctly was a last second FG for the Camels to win 24-21 in the Fort.  Other than that the Birds have done extremely well in this game.  The last few years they have danced around getting this game to a running clock but either have fallen just short or just got there.  Coach Wienrich won their home opener against Scott 58-40 and is currently playing Southwestern and are winning 14-6 currently in the 2Q.  No matter what any one says I think Coach W is a great coach and will have these Campbell County kids prepared for the battle in front of them in the Fort.

It's always fun to watch a nice competitive game instead of a blowout.  What will we have on Friday???

So Campbell County just beat Southwestern 21-19, therefore this game puts 2 unbeaten rivals against each other.

Awesome intro. That being said, I think the Birds roll. They have a rock solid defense and an offense that is grinding down their opponents. 

The easiest game so far for the blue birds early in the season. They shouldn’t have too many problems in this one.

You are correct. As soon as hit the button I did the Homer Simpson!!! Ha ha. 

NEVER look beyond the current game; keep the focus on who is on the field and play to win!  Still remember the nasty taste when we lost to Campbell County 7-6 in the mud at the old field in Alexandria. (Long time ago but the memory stays!)

Guarantee I remember it better than you do Bluebird.  Been reliving that game almost play for play annually with the old guys.  Mike Lawson ran over me on 2nd and goal from the 2.  Got lower than him on 1st and goal.  Not so on the repeat.  Man he ran hard.  Mud does tend to even things.

That old field would be muddy even in a drought.

I don't see Campbell stopping the Birds' offense at all. Only several Highlands turnovers could prevent a running clock outcome.

Not so.  Hard as a rock with big crown.  It was Dayton that was always a quagmire.  Rumor it was the dump leaching out.

If this goes as the poll says it will, lots of people are going to get to see the hype around several of the sophomore's and freshman in this program. 
 

I was able to attend last weeks JV game against Cooper - shew, it was a brutal beating - and Bryce Anderson seems to be the real deal. Jimi Cox, Colt Kremer, Kaden Sturdevant also stood out and I believe are pushing for Varsity snaps already. Birds fans will be happy that there’s a stable of athletes waiting for some action for this year & more to come.
