Didn’t Graves Co defeat BG in the semifinals in 2015? That game was in Bowling Green, but I do not know if it was at WKU or BG.

Region finals in 2014. That loss was the cutoff for my stat - the others were the ones to beat them since that game.

I really liked OCs QB.  I figured losing Atwell would be a tough transition, but, this guy is a solid player with a big  arm, poise and leadership qualities.

Should this put OC at #1 in the 2a rankings? I think you could definately make a case for them.

BG woes continue in the Raffertys bowl. But in years past they have shook it off and seemed to be ok. My only concern for BG is their offensive line. They couldn’t run the ball for nothing last night as proven on the final play when they couldn’t even get a yard. Nothing against OC but they are 2A I know BG will run in to some even bigger and tougher defensive lines then theirs in 5A

I watched this game live and no offense Catholic out played them, but this is not a very good BG team and they lost their best play maker in the 1st series.

Congratulations to Owensboro Catholic brought some shine back to Owensboro.

I really like him. He looks the part of an up and coming star QB. The more snaps he takes, the better he's gonna be. I believe EKU was his first offer back in April and Kentucky offered in the middle of July. He's going to have a lot of places to choose from by the time it's all said and done.

One game - especially opening week - is tough to know for sure as the above posts asking how good Bowling Green is point out. This is an excellent win for Owensboro Catholic no matter what. However, how good is Bowling Green this year? We can't be sure if this win was an elite level win for a couple weeks.

BG played this game tonight without:

#1 Ethan Kirkwood - Their 6'3 starting WR and occasional S
#2 Jaxon Smith - Arguably the most versatile player on the team, and starting OLB and Slot
#3 Trevy Barber - A legit Mr. Football candidate

How long those guys are out remains to be seen, but it makes for a hard way to go against an O-Cath team that hasn't lost a regular-season game since September 2022.

BG has a tough road ahead with X, then Scott Co, then South Warren, then CAL two weeks after. Getting the above guys healthy is priority #1. And while that is happening, the Purples have the chance to see how a lot of these other younger guys respond to adversity against some of the best in KY.

I still like a healthy Purples team's chances late in the season.

Same scenario at PT last year, just later in the season. They did well up until mid-season on the injury front, and then seemed to lose 4 or 5 of their playmakers for multiple weeks each, some longer.

As you were saying, it will let you see how some of the other players step up to adversity in their absence. That might have been the difference for PT in winning it all last year.

Even with the regular starters back, that extra depth they found they could rely on, especially in the playoffs, paid off with timely and big plays.

Bowling Green will be fine at the end of the day.

A lot of proven key contributors last night that were inactive didn’t help the debut of the QB Strautman in the Purple and Gold. I was very disappointed in what they did offensively last night, lacked the explosion we’ve seen yearly and if Barber, Smith are out for extended periods of time it may be a very ugly start for the perennial powerhouse. I thought the Defense looked decent, mentioned the punting situation in scrimmage last week and when Barber went out I thought it would get worse but I was impressed with the kid who stepped up.

Very tough road ahead, it’s not out of the realm of possibility they start off 3-3,2-4 before they open district play. Should still be in play for the 1 seed, so at the end of the day their destiny is still in their own hands but man what a loss. Still stunned at what I witnessed.

So everyone keeps talking about who BG was missing and game could have been this or that!!  Just for informational purposes, Catholic was without:

Cam James- #1 starting receiver and starting free safety

Barrett Evans-starting defensive tackle for past 2 years .

So yes both teams were without some of their best players. I don’t think BG is ever down. They reload.  This was a great win against a team that has some of best players in and out every year.

One thing I’ve learned about BG, don't ever count them out, especially this early. Idk how they do it but they always develop their QB’s to be top performers in the state. Come playoffs BG will still be the team to beat in 5A regardless of what their record says.

I wouldn’t attempt to compare the loss of two of the top players in 5A who accounted for 40 of the Purples 69 offensive TD’s last season and had over half of their total yards with anyone the Aces returned this year. But to each their own I guess.

Who did?  BG or OC?

I think they were talking about Woodford County.

Obviously WAYYY too early to tell but this win could help give OCath the #1 seed in 2A once again come playoff time. That gives them home field advantage and keeps them out of a dog fight in the 3rd round in which LCA and Mayfield would once again have to battle it out. Like I said way too early to tell but this was definitely a first good step on that path for them. Great win.
