Owensboro Catholic 23 Bowling Green 17

BG didn’t have no lineman out to my knowledge and those guys you mentioned can’t block for them. BG will still win the district probably easily but if they don’t block better they will not compete for the state title.

Don’t need but 2-3 seconds to let one fly to a Mr. football type of talent, many throws where Stautman gave his WR’s a chance to make a play down the field that were simply not brought in. Didn’t expect it to be as even up front as it was no doubt; but that Purples OL wasn’t annihilated the way you just portrayed, the opportunities were there.

Props to Catholic - very proud of the young men and happy for the ACES family in Owensboro.  Yards were 330 to 154 in favor of OC.  On BG side, new OC’s and new QB and lose Barber that’s tough.  I think in the end if the purples have to play a game or 2 without Barber it will help them not lean on him as much come playoff time.  I hope the young man is back healthy quickly.

I feel your pain BG, in 2019 Owensboro was loaded.  Wimsatt the new QB, great O-line, great defense (led state in sacks I believe)…lost a close semi to Freddie D, driving down less than a TD late.  But to start the season they lost Monte Owsley.  Owsley was a speedster probably 5-7 (but the best football player at O since Justin Miller, IMHO).  Prior year Owsley put 160 yards and 2 TD’s and another 30 or 40 yards rushing with limited touches on BG as O beat BG in 2018 playoffs, then against one of the best SW teams housed one on a screen faking and outrunning everyone.  Junior stats 712 yards/10 TD’s rushing and over 10 a carry, and 52 receptions, 1066 yards and 11 receiving.  VERY SIMILAR to Barber for BG.  I believe BG will be fine, but as it caused O to adapt, BG will adapt - they are a top program.

I guess that’s a matter of opinion.

So my take on everything is this. For the past two seasons, Catholic built there offense around 1 person. Their QB!  We had receivers with Carrico, Crowe, and Ebelhar. But the offense was built around Atwell. Bowling green the past few years have had a star at QB. But he too had a great corp surrounding him. This year BG centered their offense around one person. He gets injured and from his uncle it’s a sprained elbow. Not a dislocation. IMO you can’t win championships around 1 person. Just my take on the whole issue.
