This was a bad loss for Pitino. As great of a coach as Pitino is, he has now gone 7 straight seasons of coaching college basketball without making it past the first weekend. He has only made it past the first weekend 7 times out of the last 21 years coaching college. 
 

Based on how some some people view Pitino compared to Cal. You definitely would have not thought this about Pitino in regards to his coaching against Cal, and overall poor tournament success over the last 21 years. 

Actually 6 seasons, since UL was ineligible in 2016. Three of those seasons were at Iona so that is a high bar asking that school to get to the third round. Then year one at St. John's was a complete rebuild. Hard to compare that to Cal at UK over the past five seasons before this year.

Why do fans always talk about Cal vs Pitino, Burrow vs Mahomes, etc.?? It's a team game. Arkansas' players out played St John's players. Those guys can both coach. Sometimes your players don't step up. There were 90 MISSED SHOTS in this game!

No doubt. Which Cal didn’t make it past the first weekend his last 4 years coaching at UK. So this was a big game for both of them today. The biggest surprise for me is still how Pitino only made it 7 times in his last 21 years of coaching college.

Because this is a sports forum and Pitino and Calipari are two of the biggest names in college basketball. Plus since this there is always talk of Cal and if he can coach, and so many people always talking about how Pitino does everything great. It’s definitely worth talking about. 
 

As for the game. It was a hard fought game, that wasn’t pretty. Bricks left and right by both teams, and refs calling fouls almost every time down the court in the second half.

Not from EKY..... NKY. Lots of friends from EKY after my college years at Morehead. One of the officials in the game was Bart Lenox, originally from Cynthiana. Worked games in 10th region, Atlantic Sun, and Horizon. I believe one of the conferences he works is the SEC.

According to the announcers doing the game it looks like Thiero may be back next week.

I didn’t watch, was gone for my daughter’s play. Ugly or not, this is a big win for Cal and Arkansas. I didn’t think they would beat St. John’s. Cal definitely knows how to win against Pitino, I won’t argue that in any way, shape, or form.

Watched a lot of games that he called. 

The SEC improves to 9-6 in the tourney with the win today.
