DearToday Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 They have done the draw. Pretty nice draw for likely the region favorite, Martin County. 1
gchs_uk9 Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 I don't follow. Why did all 4 teams from the 57th and 58th make it, but not the 3rd place teams from the 59th and 60th? And why is this even a thing anyway? 2

I know Floyd Central defeated Belfry. Not sure about the other matchups. I don't think they post on Scoreboard either, which makes it odd. 1
LethalPG Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 I'm assuming Lawrence Co, Paintsville and Magoffin Co. all defeated another "loser". Just don't know exactly who those matchups were.
DearToday Posted February 28, 2025 Author Posted February 28, 2025 I'd say Magoffin probably beat East Ridge.

Why does ONE region do it differently than the other 15? 1

I could see more regions moving towards it with the implementation of the RPI system.
The Professor Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 I don’t see anything wrong with the way they have been doing it for as far back as I can remember and before. This system is unnecessary in my opinion. 1

Like Bugs, I think the 15th has missed a turn. The byes are District winners. District and Region together seems to act as a double-elimination tournament. The Scoreboard version of the bracket ~ 🔗 scoreboard/khsaa/15th 1
FatNate Posted March 1, 2025 Posted March 1, 2025 I don’t know the 15th that well, but does any one know if these are the 12-best teams in the region, regardless of district? From the outside looking in, it appears to be a format that improves the chances of the eight best teams moving on to the regional tournament. Isn’t that why everyone favors seeding the district tournaments? Which in theory gets the best two teams to the regional, but what if districts with three good teams that deserve it more than a district in the with only one really good team? And, if we are all honest, since two teams move on after district play, doesn’t already feel kind of like a double elimination tournament? I love a lot about Kentucky high school basketball, but I don’t think we should be afraid to tinker with the format, just because it’s been the same for ever. I might argue that is the very reason we might want to consider a few new ideas.

Every team in the region gets a chance to play a play-in game to make it into the tournament. Think of it like a loser's bracket. So I believe 8 teams lost in the first round of the 4 district tournaments and they all had to draw to play each other, so the 4 winners of those games gets to play one of the district runner up's at the runner up's home gym to advance to play one of the district champions in the quarter finals of the regional tournament at Pike Central. 1 1
The Professor Posted March 1, 2025 Posted March 1, 2025 I’m not as knowledgeable about this format as others but it seems like a thinly veiled scheme to eventually eliminate the district tournaments. I would hate to see that happen if it does ever occur.
nikeman49 Posted March 2, 2025 Posted March 2, 2025 This is the most ridiculous format in the entire state!! Surely they can do better with this kind of evaluation of a state tournament representative. 1
