I hate that Marcus Freeman is the Notre Dame coach. For my entire life their coaches have been insufferable air bags that were very easy to dislike. Freeman is by far the most likeable Irish coach that I can remember and someone that I find myself rooting for even though I have strong disdain for Notre Dame.

I do like Freeman as a coach.

Indiana couldn’t get much going. Notre Dame was clearly better at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and their time with the football involved a lot more too. The game definitely wasn’t as close as the final score might lead others to believe if none or just little of the game was watched.

I was really surprised on this morning's College Game Day with the harshness that Kirk Herbstreit words about Indiana. He said that they were totally outclassed and did not deserve to be on the same field with Notre Dame. He then went on to say that yes, they had 11 wins but had played nobody and in the future the selection committee needs to do a better job of picking the 12 best teams to be in the CFP. You usually don't hear him talk that bad about a program on air that is usually Saban or Mcafee.

I was surprised it came from Herbie, but it turned out to be true. In another thread, I was corrected about Indiana second-guessing the extension.

I understand it was a great year by their standards, but when you lose to the only two real teams you played, and they appear to be on a completely different level, it’s concerning…. But hey, he says cool stuff.

I googled him this morning and it said he was the head coach of a team that got dominated in the first round of the playoff. He’s writing checks his rear can’t cash. Last night wasn’t in doubt once ND went up 2 possessions. Hoosiers couldn’t or wouldn’t try and stretch the field at all and NDs defense is legit.

With the contract extension it was probably IU saying they can’t afford to lose this guy.

I have watched very little college football this year, but after watching one quarter of this game I was wondering how in the world Indiana made the playoffs.

I thought I heard that Indiana had a creative offense. Did I hear that wrong? Woody Hayes would be bored by the Indiana offense I saw last night.

I still believe Indiana deserved in the playoff. It’s not like they had a season as good as they had this year any other time. Yes, their strength of schedule wasn’t the best and it was totally different for them playing against Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan for the matter, but they also won impressively in the majority of the games they won too. I think the more interesting thing will be to see what happens with Indiana football moving forward.

I still believe they were 100% right to extend him. It’s Indiana football, which is always horrible and yet a coach took them to the playoffs. Indiana couldn’t really afford to let things play out. Needed to use this momentum to help recruiting, and not let teams use that he will leave because of how well they did. Plus say if he did happen to win this playoff game, he would have been even more expensive and more sought after by other teams then. When you are school like Indiana you do it early and hope you end up being right.

I agree that they should have. I’m just saying they’re going to spend the winter hoping they’re right and wondering if they were.
