Jay Fallin resigned Dec. 5th. It's almost 2 months and I'm not sure if we are in a hurry.

If they hire from the inside, wouldn't they just keep going with what they are doing now TNT?

Aren't there former football Coaches in admin at OHS/OISD?  I would have thought this process would have gone much smother.

You would think, but I'm not sure if we are in a hurry. I'm Owensboro through and through. I'll be honest I was happy with anyone they hire, I just wanted them to get the process over as quickly and thoroughly as possible. I'm getting irritated to say the least. Not fair to our kids and alums that want this program to get back to beating everyone again. I'm just not sure if the admin is ready. Kids are not sure what is going on as well.

Great question @okie1. Not sure how to answer anymore then what I sent to @Purple88. I just don't know anymore.

I am having a hard time with this hire tbh. I'm struggling to figure out why we are taking this long to make a hire when other places are filling their positions in the matter of weeks.

Here is my take on that.

I got a feeling that who some at Owensboro THINK they should hire, in terms of it being a "splash" vs. who has actually applied (I have no reason to believe they wouldn't be able to do the job and then some) are two totally different things.

 

My take is similar to Calico mostly:

I think Owensboro admin had already talked themselves into parting ways with Coach Fallin at least by the mid-way point of last season.  They informed him and asked for applications.  They initially got some big fish to at least talk to them (Coach Wallace, Coach Morris and it's said that even Coach Brandon Smith "considered" it).  They rode in that boat as long as they could but just wasn't a fit.  So, coming out of that is the Christmas/New Year Holidays that most things shut down, so you lose a week/10 days from that.

Then Ganaway came online and gained traction with Rector who seems to have been there from the start.

But now you're talking over a month in and now the natives are getting restless.  The fanbase gets involved/irratated that their guy (the internal guys they know and like) didn't get a shot.  And here we are, still bobbing around after starting and restarting a few times here.

It is not the best look, as the current roster today has a fine team loaded up for next season.

Who's going to lead them?  The clock's ticking O admin.  Are they into winter workouts already?  I'd assume so.

2 weeks ago I was all for Rector, Ganaway or Drew Hall, but it's been a tough pill to swallow. 

The concern seems to be that OHS has lost quite a few kids from the program the last year or so. When Fallin stepped down I think the thought was there needs to be a hire that could bring some excitement to the locker room. Someone that could relate to kids and would make Red Devil football “fun”. A players coach so to speak. I believe that’s why Ganaway was so high on the list. Rector, from what I’ve heard, kind of has an old school business approach to coaching so I think there is some concern with him from a perspective of fit. And I think they feel Coach Hall’s personality/coaching style may be a lot like Prince and Fallin’s since he coached with those guys. Whatever the thought process is this thing has drug out way too long!

That’s a great outlook and perspective. So pick your poison. Do you want someone that is all business and gets the job done, or do you want someone that is going to be a friend of the players and keep it one step behind. With the talent OHS has had, what is the best scenario?

For the next person to top what the Devils achieved under Fallin, they are going to have to win a State Title, something that hasn't been done in almost 40 years, and several coaches.

Looking at it from the positive side for the next guy in charge. 3 different coaches have made it to the title game since 1986 though. If it’s not going to be Coach Hall I still want Rector hired.
