I'm not questioning that at all. I'm just a little mystified by people turning up their nose at the idea of Brian Rector being a good hire because of the perception that he hasn't won enough games for Owensboro, and then they're turning around and nodding their heads to the idea of someone who has a 12-29 (29% winning) head coaching record. And that is NOT to say that I don't think Ganaway could be a great coach or potentially the exact fit that the Red Devils need, I'm just saying......I sense a little bit of a double-standard, or dare I say, hypocracy when it comes to folks nay-saying Rector (120-101 / 54% winning) with his state championship and runners up trophies.

Well I don’t like either one of those choices.   Ganaway was a good WR coming out of Indy Ben Davis and made it to the JETS for a year but an injury stopped his progress.  His coaching seems to lack but I’m sure the players would love him.  I don’t think that’s a home run hire at all.  I would favor Rector over him but want neither.

Who do you want then? You seem to have very big expectations?

Because I don’t think Ganaway or Rector are great hires?  I’d say I’m in the majority on that.

So what's your take on Brian Rector (coaching record above) compared to DeMarcus Ganaway? Asking honestly and not trying to disparage either coach. Genuinely.

DeMarcus Ganaway
2017: Ohio County (7-4)
2018: Ohio County (1-10)
2019: Ohio County (4-6)
2020: Bosse, IN (0-9)
2021: NFL Diversity Coaching Program
2022: NFL Diversity Coaching Program
2023: Mandarin, FL - Wide Receivers Coach
2024: Mandarin, FL - Wide Receivers Coach

IMO, Rectors 7 wins at a very large prestigious private school in large metro is not impressive to me. Ganaway winning 7 games at a small rural school with very little tradition is.

Being around the program for a while I can guarantee you one thing. The program will hire from within and people on here that believe they will hire outside the building will be wrong. The Next Head Coach at Owensboro High School is on the current staff. If not, I'm wrong, but history tells us what?  We hire within..

We all got our jollies when we thought Wallace was considering the job. I took some of the bait too.... but as I said all along.... The hire is within.

I have agreed it will be within from the beginning. I am just having conversations and stating opinions otherwise.

I don’t believe either is the correct hire. Simply stating his name was mentioned on local radio and what he did for Ohio county was impressive.

You have a right to your opinion, but to me Rectors 7 wins includes wins over Montgomery Bell Academy and Pope John Paul II (both very solid teams with very good athletes).  The Ohio County wins are over McLean County, Muhlenberg County and Grayson County.  IMO more coaches could beat the later teams than the former teams.  I think Coach Rector would be a very good hire for O, because:

1. He WANTS to be there.  He's not getting enticed by people to make him consider Owensboro.  That's where he is from and that is an important factor to me.

2.  He has won a State Championship before.  ALL these other guys, have they won one?

3.  He has coached very skilled players with high end skills like Owensboro's players have year in and year out.

4.  Just because you were a great player does not mean you will be a great coach.  Picking a stud player with zero head coaching experience is setting that person up for a tough introduction to team management, player management, parent management: to say nothing about TEACHING real Xs and Os.

I'm not saying he is the best candidate for O.  But I am saying he should be considered seriously and would IMO be a qualified coach to lead the Red Devils.  I feel he is being dismissed somewhat because he isn't the sexy choice.  He has had some losing seasons.  Well, that can be viewed as a plus to have that in your experience bag of tricks to know how to handle things when the going gets tough.  Just another viewpoint is all.

That’s all this is, I have not endorsed anyone but two guys in this thread. And I believe neither of the two are interested. The right hire I believe is whoever applies that has the best resume and vision for the program, the rest is speculation.  The only fact here is that Owensboro has far too much talent to not have a title since 86.

This!

@Purple88 and @Colonels_Wear_Blue I agree that Rector is the best option between the 2 and out of a lot who are mentioned here.  I do worry about his losing seasons against much tougher competition.  He is not the “ideal” hire.  Maybe he would be the right choice, who knows, but it’s not a Slam dunk choice.  Wallace, Smith, Edge would be and they aren’t coming though.  AD should take his time and make the right call here.  I doubt Locher or Justin Miller would be interested, but if it were me I would bring either of those 2 before Rector.  It would bring a lot of excitement.  I don’t think Rector will.  The AD can only pick out of those who are interested I agree.

The facts are the facts, competitive title games in 99,00 and 20. Blew I big lead in the second half in 14. All four games were winnable. 0-4 should have at the minimum 1-3 record over the last four title game appearances. Bo smith, Justin miller ,Nick locher, Keshawn walker, Austin Gough, monte owsley, Gavin wimsatt all left without a title and that’s unacceptable.

I’m going to disagree a little - yes leading Highlands 42 -21 at half then going very conservative was a horrible coaching job in 2014.  Should have had that title.  I would love to replay 2020 and we lost 17-7.  But 1999 and 2000, maybe with a different system, especially in 2000 we could POSSIBLY have won, but those Bluebird teams were loaded.  rob smith, Guiduigli, Grover at LB, Hamblen.  Monster O-line…unbeatable teams 1998-2000 for HHS.

Ok, maybe just simply out classed in 99 and 2000. 0-2

2014 no if ands or buts should have won that game. 1-2

2020 I think you play that game 10 times you have 10 different outcomes. But for sake of conversation OHS doesn’t win. 1-3 and you still have a title in this decade.

I heard some interesting news last night!!!!  Some inside scoop...  Don't wanna go into too much but interviewing started this week...

Ganaway is intriguing to me.  He has a lot to prove as far as winning but it's impossible to compare Bosse and Ohio County to Owensboro.  No disrespect to those programs but I am not sure Nick Saban would have gotten much more out of those teams from 2018 on.  I thought his 4 win season in 2019 at Ohio County was as impressive as his 7 win season was.  He has a great ability to connect with the student athletes and was very connected to DSP, a local athletic training that helped many Owensboro area athletes go on to play college ball.  I would be interested to see what his entire staff at Owensboro would look like but I feel like you would not see kids leaving that program under him.  I would go as far to say that kids and parents would be more likely to gravitate toward him than away from him.  When he arrived at Ohio County that program had such low numbers, we questioned if they would even be able to field a 5A team.  Before he arrived, Ohio County had 33 kids on the roster.  Going into the 2017 season however, the roster ballooned to 56 kids.  I also know that DMarc is a first class individual and beyond the field, the student athletes would be in very good hands with him at the helm.

This is not me advocating for him over Rector.  I think Rector would be a fine hire as well BUT it is certainly two different styles.  Just depends on what Owensboro is looking for with the future of their program.

I think I can eliminate a few names mentioned in this thread after doing some digging yesterday.  Nick Locher and Matt Brannon can probably be marked off the list.  I think Locher loves where he is as a D1 position coach in Hawaii and I am not sure Brannon is ready to jump back into the Coaching grind.  Let the rumor mill continue...
