Has Mr. Football slipped from Quisenberry's grasp?

Featured Replies

Q's been the favorite or at least co-favorite from day one. He owns one of the season's signature performances, against St. Edward (OH) and just played his heart out against CovCath.

He's been phenomenal this year and throughout the duration of his career. Whether you consider the award to be a one year deal or a career achievement, he fits both bills.

As I stated in this week's watchlist, he went out on his shield against CovCath, but also fell on his sword with the late fumble.

With how that game ended and the fact that Boyle County is done.... allowing Atwell, James, Elam, Johnson, etc. to shine on.... has Mr. Football slipped away?

Sorry not to know, but has the young man committed anywhere?  Thinking he did to UK, if so that will get him over the hump and he wins Mr. Football.

He committed to West Virginia and then about a month de-committed  and switched his commitment to Kentucky.

After his performance against CovCath, I thought he was truly an elite-skilled athlete.  2024 Mr. Football Award will be hard pressed to find a home outside of Boyle Co.

No doubt that he has already earned this award.  Very well deserved.

Timing is everything. If last Friday’s game had been in week three, there’s very little discussion about his chances. I hope the voters take that into consideration.

He is IMHO the rightful and worthy winner. He is a special player that checks all the boxes you want.

The issue for Quisenberry is I am convinced half the voters for this award don't watch a full football game until Finals weekend.

There is a chance that some very special talents with monster stats have a chance to catch the eye of the voters and now Quisenberry cannot be among them.

If O-Cath wins it, I think Atwell could win it.

And this is why he'll still win it.

I'll second this. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

When you factor in the entirety of his junior year and, in particular, the show he put on in the finals, plus the potential for O-Cath's first ever championship and the level he's sustained this season, Atwell is the biggest threat, imo.

That's why I started this thread. A fifth straight Boyle County championship would have allowed Quisenberry to be seen on the biggest stage one last time and punctuate his career with the highest individual honor. That's off the table now*, but it's an opportunity still available to several others, namely Atwell.

* Mr. Football is certainly not off the table for him, just the opportunity to be seen at Kroger again.

I will third Atwell.

I don't think it matters what happens rest of season. Quisenberry wins in a landslide. Hard to look past the body of work over last 4 yrs.

He's gaining award season momentum, claiming two of the three individual honors handed out so far.

But this is hardly a reliable predictor of things to come. The Hornung, Gatorade, and Mr. Football awards definitely do their own thing.

The last few years have seen several different winners across all three awards. Only twice in the last seven years has a player swept all three.

2023: Daniel Thomas (Mr. Football), Cole Hodge (Gatorade), Cutter Boley (Hornung)

2022: Travis Egan (Mr. Football and Gatorade), Ty Bryant (Hornung)

2021: Isaac Dixon (Mr. Football), Xavier Brown (Gatorade), Dane Key (Hornung)

2020: Jager Burton swept all three, but shared Mr. Football with Cam Hergott

2019: Michael Mayer (Mr. Football and Gatorade), Beau Allen (Hornung)

2018: Wandale Robinson swept all three

2017: D'mauriae VanCleave (Mr. Football), Rondale Moore (Hornung and Gatorade)

(With sarcasm dripping from my fingers as I type) How did Cutter Boley, Dane Key and Beau Allen not win Mr Football, afterall all it takes is being close to winning and then committing to Kentucky to get the final push?
