Has Mr. Football slipped from Quisenberry's grasp?

Featured Replies

I got to say Brock Coffman has a nice list and resume for it…..  I don’t think he gets it, but he is very deserving.

(With sarcasm dripping from my fingers as I type) How did Cutter Boley, Dane Key and Beau Allen not win Mr Football, afterall all it takes is being close to winning and then committing to Kentucky to get the final push?

I like Cutter Boley and I hope he has an awesome career at UK.  But he wasn't the best player on his own team.  Bradey Hensley was a better player and had a better year.

(With not an ounce of sarcasm) How did Beau Allen win the Hornung in 2019? Mayer should have had a broom in his hand that year.

He's gaining award season momentum, claiming two of the three individual honors handed out so far.

But this is hardly a reliable predictor of things to come. The Hornung, Gatorade, and Mr. Football awards definitely do their own thing.

The last few years have seen several different winners across all three awards. Only twice in the last seven years has a player swept all three.

2023: Daniel Thomas (Mr. Football), Cole Hodge (Gatorade), Cutter Boley (Hornung)

2022: Travis Egan (Mr. Football and Gatorade), Ty Bryant (Hornung)

2021: Isaac Dixon (Mr. Football), Xavier Brown (Gatorade), Dane Key (Hornung)

2020: Jager Burton swept all three, but shared Mr. Football with Cam Hergott

2019: Michael Mayer (Mr. Football and Gatorade), Beau Allen (Hornung)

2018: Wandale Robinson swept all three

2017: D'mauriae VanCleave (Mr. Football), Rondale Moore (Hornung and Gatorade)

I don't think it matters what happens rest of season. Quisenberry wins in a landslide. Hard to look past the body of work over last 4 yrs.

Five years. He is a Covid-repeat, although his freshman year at Garrard they only played four games and his stats were minimal. In his sophomore year at Garrard (2021), Quisenberry passed for 1,034 yards and 10 touchdowns, ran for 1,501 and 19 touchdowns, intercepted three passes and recovered three fumbles.

Might just be retiring from education but continuing coaching. The way the system is set up, if you retire as a teacher, they have to repost the coaching position, even if you are being rehired. There have been numerous coaches in Kentucky do something similar over the years.

At the KFCA Hospitality Room, we did an informal poll. Quisenberry had the most votes. James & Johnson split the bulk of the rest of the votes. An amateur opinion.... Quisenberry carried the eastern part of the state. James & Johnson split the west.
