DevilMayCare
Region Final Headlines • Hodge In A Vengeful Mood • Johnson A Hart Breaker • Q Runs The Spectrum First Team All-Watchlist Connor Hodge (Christian Academy of Louisville, ATH) The feeling was in the air. Despite getting hammered by Central in Week 9, CAL won the pregame poll and the sentiment leaned toward the Centurions being able to reach a little higher if they're on their game. That proved true as CAL scored on their first two possessions, covering 125 yards in ten plays with Hodge hurting the Yellow Jackets with his arm and legs. The Centurions were already out of reach. He totaled 361 yards of offense (209 passing/159 rushing) and all four CAL touchdowns to bury the Jackets. Hodge also thwarted two Central drives with interceptions. He's got 23 of those for his career, tying him for #8 all-time in state history. All things considered, this may have been his finest hour. What more does he have in store with CAL's biggest threat now behind them? Season to date: 213/314 for 3,241 yards and 34 TDs and 8 INTs | 786 rushing yards and 15 TDs | 5 INTs Second Team All-Watchlist Jarren Johnson (Union County, ATH) Hart County football has morphed into a compound force of nature over the last two seasons, captivating our attention as they'd found a way to win in 25 of their previous 26 games. A singular force of nature was responsible for that one prior loss, as Daniel Thomas was in the process of rewriting history last year. It happened again last week, with Jarren Johnson's late season tear spelling doom for the Raiders. Tackling Johnson is like trying to lasso a cyclone. He devastated Hart County's defense for 381 yards, including 283 on the ground. The threat posed by his legs opened up opportunities down field, where he completed 6/7 passes and a touchdown to go with his four rushing scores. Season to date: 210 carries for 2,287 and 39 TDs | 580 passing yards and 6 TDs | 43 tackles | 2 INTs Highlights: Breaking "Harts" Third Team All-Watchlist Montavin Quisenberry (Boyle County, ATH) With a 32 game win streak and pursuit of a fifth consecutive state title hanging in the balance, the Rebels turned to their goat as you might expect in the biggest moments of the biggest games. Quisenberry hoisted the Boyle County dynasty on his shoulders, answering multiple CovCath attempts to create separation. He gashed the Colonels for 241 rushing yards and rocketed through CovCath's kick coverage for an 85 yard score, giving him three touchdowns on the night. He went out on his shield, but also fell on his sword in the end. Quisenberry fumbled twice, the last precipitating the end of his career as he reached for a go-ahead touchdown to save the day, only to lose the ball out of the endzone for a touchback. Happy endings are promised to no one. The lowlights are just as consequential as the highlights. Throughout Q’s storied career, the latter far outnumbered the former. Season to date: 79 carries for 882 yards and 13 TDs | 49 catches for 749 yards and 13 TDs | 2 passing TDs | 2 KR TDs | 31 Tackles | 3 INTs Honorable Mention Deuce Bailey (Bowling Green, QB) Bailey tied a career high with six touchdown passes against Atherton, leaving him with a personal best 45 on the season, eclipsing last year's total by two. Season to date: 185/279 for 2,978 yards and 45 TDs with 8 INTs | 338 rushing yards and 2 TDs Kade Elam (Corbin, QB) Elam orchestrated a demolition of Ashland behind 225 yards of offense and six total touchdowns, including four with his legs. Season to date: 189/246 for 3,288 yards and 40 TDs with 3 INTs | 374 rushing yards and 14 TDs Highlights: vs. Ashland Brady Atwell (Owensboro Catholic, QB) A routine night at the office against Monroe County produced four more touchdowns, putting his career haul at 193. Season To Date: 207/303 for 3,103 yards and 44 TDs with 5 INTs | 518 rushing yards and 17 TDs Brock Coffman (Sayre, ATH) The Spartan passing game never fully took flight against Pikeville, but all Coffman needs is a sliver of daylight, which he found on a punt return. He broke right, found the sideline and was gone, untouched. Season to date: 87 receptions for 1,383 yards and 24 TDs | 3 KR TDs | 53 tackles | 5 INTs including a pick-six Highlights: vs. Pikeville 1

He's not quite as big as Atwell, but he looks bigger than the 205 I usually see him listed at. The combination of arm and mobility is marginal between the two. Watch the hudl link above. Watch the run at the 58 second mark. He's deceptively quick. Then watch the throw in the next play. When he has the time to fully commit to a throw and achieves that hip torque and whip-like follow through, the ball gets where it's going in a hurry. Baseball players (Elam and Atwell are both DI ⚾️ commits) often have natural arm talent that translates to football. For various reasons, other quarterbacks have maintained higher visibility this year, but I'm not sure Elam takes a back seat to anyone anymore.
