St. X Fans - Is This Good Enough?

So as @St. Matthews Boywas stating, even Trinity had a few down years.  Trinity fans were ready to run Coach Cobb out of town.  Yes, those still aren’t bad years by most standards, but they are by Trinity standards.  I guess it’s like the 11 years since Coach Glaser for St. X.  A lot of schools would love 1 title, 2 runner-ups & a 70% winning percentage.

Exactly. The standard at places like T, X, and can add Male to that as well, is very high. I think a lot of fans and supporters, while they should have high expectations, forget that even some of the worst at those places is the best at others.

IMO, X has been down in recent years and should have been better. Second round exits each of the last three seasons (albeit two were to Trinity and Male) is not want Tiger fans want to see at all.

St. X’s facilities are pretty bad. Their weight room is dated, the locker room is comical, and their field is basically asphalt. In 2010, X had great facilities. A lot of KY has caught up and passed them in the last 14 years.

I disagree about the weight room since most schools don't have anything close to it. The locker room is in plans to be updated as well as the scoreboard that needs to be replaced. I was on field today and I wouldn't call it like asphalt but it is in plans to be replaced as well.

Part of the 2nd round exits last two years is losing to Manual in district which sets up having to play tough #1 seeds in 2nd round but the standard at St. X should be to at least win the district which hasn't happened last two years.

Is it good enough? Absolutely not. Do loses happen in the playoffs that are unexpected, yes. That's what makes win or go home situations so exciting. Coach Wallace has won a lot of games over the years and understands what it takes to win at a high level and get things turned around so they can move past the second round.

Two things come to mind over the last three years... I think if they are able to beat Male in 2022 the fan base isn't as down because they would have probably won back-to-back and the second is they have to beat Manual in the regular season. If they beat Manual in '23 they don't have to play Trinity in the second round and if they beat Manual this season, they don't have to see Ryle.

Just like the sports clique... you either get better or get worse, you never stay the same. I think Coach Wallace and the program will take a long look at what they're doing and find ways to ensure they are getting better each day.

While he is an elite person and may be an elite coach, he may not be an elite coach for St. X.  He must make the necessary adaptations to be elite for the Tigers.

Elite for the Tigers? Like winning a State Championship in one of his 7 years… same as Glaser in his last EIGHT years? Give me a break.

I agree that most in Louisville don’t have an equal weight room… but that’s about it. Outside of Louisville is another story.

I would feel very confident in saying that St. X’s turf is in the worst condition of ANY High School in KY. And that’s not hyperbole.

We took a team there in 2013 and the field was in bad shape and we heard about the plans to update the weight room, locker room, and field…

Turf was replaced in 2017 so different from 2013 turf which was in bad shape.

Sheesh… that’s depressing. That “new” turf reminds me of the Old Cardinal Stadium concrete carpet!

X's weight room is over 10,000 square feet.

What high school in Kentucky has a comparable facility?

St. X's weight room would be something most schools in the state would love! And the field is just fine. I have been there a bunch of times. They used it a whole lot but it's just fine.

Coach Wallace is a coach that most schools in the state would love. He's not the problem. I'd say most would put him as a top-five or six active coach right now!

It's just different now in the city of Louisville. What Beatty did to elevate Trinity was unheard of and they are still at the top. Male has done so many good things under Wolfe, they are also still right there.

St. X is clearly next in line and it's not even close when you talk about the elite programs. Now, I understand one state title in seven years is not enough for the X folks.

But when you think of it this way, it's nothing new. So it's not a Wallace problem.

**X has won just three titles since 1999!

**Male has a total of three titles since 1999!

**Trinity has won 16 titles since 1999!

I continue to wonder why one of the fastest kids in the State does not play on the offensive side of the ball or return any kicks or punts? There is no doubt his speed is a weapon that very few athletes can match. How can you not utilize that? Head Coach has been very successful no doubt. Just can't figure this out.

What player are you referring to?

If you're talking about #24 who played corner the last two seasons, my guess is they have tried him at various positions, and I would imagine based off some of his plays at corner he doesn't have the best ball skills to play WR.

Saying the program has failed to meet expectations by getting blown out in the second round each of the  last two years isn't a statement that Kevin Wallace isn't a good coach.

He is a good coach which makes what has happened all the more baffling.

I think a lot of people (incorrectly) assumed that when Beatty left Trinity, X would "naturally" slide into that Top Dog spot, and that hasn't happened. I think that was an unrealistic expectation considering what Beatty did, and I think that could be contributing to some of this "not meeting the standard" talk.
