But more to your point, this is why I included the lesser charge of Assault 3rd because under Assault 3rd intent is not a factor, all you have to be is reckless and have it result in an injury to a peace officer.  sf41 addressed this a few days ago about intent:

Yeah I'd say intent is going to be near impossible to prove in this case. 

I would not be surprised if this never goes to trial. 

Also remember what is in the post arrest complaint, it says:

Detective Gillis was in the middle of the westbound lanes, in full LMPD uniform and a hi-visibility yellow reflective rain jacket.

So any defense of I didn't know it was a police officer is a huge reach.

I think Scheffler's intent was to get into the golf course and get warmed up for the PGA Championship.  

But to your point, I am still going with Scheffler will plea to something like Charge 4:  Disregard Signals From Officers Directing Traffic and Scheffler will pay the injured officer.

That is not my area of expertise but I doubt there would be a claim in a case like this. 

When people with money injure and/or wrong others, they usually end up paying.  

And putting myself in Scheffler's shoes, I know I didn't comply, I know a police officer was injured, I know I tell/show everyone what a great guy I am, I know if I don't pay I am probably going to get sued, I know if I get sued all the ugly details are going to come out, I know it could stretch on for years, and most of all I know I need to make this right because I know I did wrong.  Again, that is me in Scheffler's shoes.

You (I assume) and I don't have "any money" to speak of.

In this case he would pay to make this whole thing go away and maintain his name, image, and likeness. 

Either you believe it was dark, raining, confusing in a chaotic situation with an over-reactive and controversial detective doing traffic work or you believe that a new father woke up and decided he was going to go Mad Max on those managing the tournament Friday.  The former sounds more likely.  A lot more likely. 

The arresting officer owns a private crash reconstruction business.  The incident could be an Interesting way to get your business noticed  Its FB site is offline as of now. 

He also apparently failed to follow body cam rules.   There are some comments in some places that he tripped over a speed bump and was mad that that happened.  We could see that in the bodycam - if it was on per apparent policy.

There's apparently some footage from a camera on a light pole somewhere in the vicinity, we'll see if that shows anything of significance.

Those jackets shown in multiple videos are huge.  How much of the black/navy "uniform" would be visible in the rain, in the dark, besides the pants.

I also notice in the video, only 1 maybe 2, have "POLICE" on the back of the jackets.  Several others are blank, including the officer who confronts & talks to Jeff Darlington.  So just by video from the scene in this thread, not knowing he was a PO is a complete possibility.

Right. A yellow vest doesn't necessarily mean police.
