Additionally, it looks pretty clear to me that LMPD tolerated a lot of bad behavior by Gillis from looking at his disciplinary record.  In other words, there is nothing good cops can do about someone like Gillis when LMPD clearly tolerates cops like Gillis.  It is systematic.

That's my point. It seems like all departments and unions should want to protect the good guys and get rid of the bad guys. That does not seem to be the norm, unfortunately. 

We agree 100% LMPD tolerates it and that it's systemic.

Sure could be on the wrist.

On the knees/pants, once you charge someone the police are witnesses for the prosecution and decisions about releasing evidence are up to the prosecution.  

Either way, we have unaccounted for injuries and damage.  

We can all sit around talk about LMPD but internally they have to get to the bottom of this.  Gillis was disciplined for not having his body cam on and that is all we know to my knowledge.  Beyond that, if Gillis is lying about injuries/damage I am confident that Internal Affairs will be able to figure that out and if so he should be fired.  And Gillis doubled down on the injuries/damage with his statement yesterday so unless LMPD says otherwise that is what the record will reflect at LMPD which is separate from any court proceedings.

That is not how unions work no matter if we are talking about a police union, a teachers union, a labor union, etc.  Unions do a lot of good but they also vigorously protect the bad apples.

Agreed. That's why I'm not a fan of unions, in general.

I'll be honest, I know I saw the number, but in the time I've tried to find the source, I can't find it, and it's not in the official report.  So I'll just take the L on that aspect, and withdraw the distance aspect.

Still not the best look for LMPD with all we know now.

The officer SS is conversing with seems to forget that it is dark, it is raining.  And SS is not in a familiar area to him, along with the chaotic scene that is occuring.

We also know from video that some of the yellow rain jackets are just that, yellow rain jackets.  And not marked with "police".  We also know from the video & pictures that these yellow rain jackets are huge and do cover up the "uniform" which would clearly indicate one was a police officer.

Gillis, while working traffic enforcement outside a University of Louisville football game on Oct. 4, 2025, used his LMPD cruiser to respond to a nearby vehicle collision. En route, he crashed into a fleeing motorcyclist involved in the collision. His mother, who was also working traffic control for UofL, was in the car.

It is behind a paywall but is sounds like Officer Gillis took the fleeing motorcycle out and that is not allowed, all while mommy was in the car.

Not sure if it would but could this whole fiasco keep Valhalla (Louisville) from ever hosting another PGA sponsored event? I sure hope not. I know that currently it is not listed out in the future for any tournaments even the ones it has previously hosted (Ryder Cup, PGA Championship).

Not to get off topic, but this brings a question  to mind that you might have insight on. What are the capabilities of police tracking motorists fleeing the police by using drones instead of high speed chases?
