Cooper 81 Highlands 46 (9th Region)

Recommended Posts

One of the best games of the year by the Jags. Excellent defense, low turnovers and great job on the FT line. Andy Johnson played exceptionally well and continues to find his groove after missing nearly 3 months! Rondon was definitely on his game tonight as well. Great team win.
Gets no easier for Sunday but if the Jags can repeat tonight’s performance I will take Cooper.

Cooper came out as the more aggressive team really taking it to the Birds. The birds didn't have any answers. Shots weren't falling, defense was lost and offensive was non existent. Coopers coach was into the game coaching his players while Highlands coach was complaining to the officials as usual. Pretty disappointing regional game. Highlands should be better than what they have put out this year. To many athletes within those school walls avoiding playing the sports they grew up loving and being successful at.

Is Highlands current coach the same coach that won a state championship just a couple years ago at Highlands.

Very impressed with the depth from the Cooper bench. 22 points (16 from the 5 guys in the normal 10 man rotation) really highlights there is not a huge drop off when the starters come out.

Coach Sully has the team playing as one unit finally now that the entire team is fully healthy fully and demanding defense, defense and oh yeah, more defense!

What's that got to do with how he prepared his team this year? Pretty less than respectable season this year. Where are the players at? Are the players opting not to play due to other sports or not wanting to play for him. Where is Benke, Class, Geisler for example. Great basketball players who have played in the past but not now.

They have been convinced their futures lie in another direction. If they really don't want to be there you are better off without them. Thought they would be a decent team but Cooper (healthy), Newport, and Cov Cath are at a different level. You can criticize the coach all you want but he did produce a state championship a couple of years ago. They play a good schedule, play hard, and give it their best shot. What's less than respectable about that?

Maybe the pendulum has swung back.

Football school, basketball school, football school.

Don't forget we had a nice little run 4-5 years ago or so when everyone joked it might be a baseball school with the back to back State Runner Up years.....  Then we also had back to back State runs in Boys soccer.....  It just seems very cyclical, where do the athletes gravitate too....  Unfortunately for the last 2 years basketball has taken a back seat, to football for now.

HHS has long had success in multiple sports, girls and boys.   Back when my avatar was in school, the Birds were very good in XC and track as well.

Unfortunately, the specialization bug has hit Fort Thomas hard in the last 3 years it seems.

I have heard the grumblings all year.  Biggest one was “daddy” ball.  Kevin did not start coaching to coach his son for one.  The few games I saw, didn’t see better options in the bench.  As for the football kids not playing for the reasons I was told, weak.
