Are we seriously talking about elementary and middle school games on here? How about we open a thread for Pee-Wee basketball where you can brag about your 6th graders beating everyone. Let's talk about high school b-ball on here, since that is what it was opened for.

Geez-just take the loss. This is not new that RH has young players. It's a small school. To make up a team in the levels that other schools have, you have to pull up kids from the lower grades. It does not mean that you are that much better than everyone else.

As for" holdbacks", if the student in question will be able to play his senior year according to KHSAA guidelines(not too old) then get over it. You might as well get used to it because you will be facing them until they graduate.

 

This goes for any school because "holdbacks" are at every school whether that school acknowledges it or not.

 

Also these decisions are made by the parents for reasons THEY deem important so dont hold it against the child.

Holdbacks are no longer an issue. I dare say every team has some for various reasons, including athletics, young age, lack of maturity and even academics. Let get past that and talk about basketball. If they are a sophmore or eigth grader at their school, then that is what they are.

Holdbacks will always be an issue and until kids are mature it matters. If you think it cannot be a competetive advantage consider this I know of a situation where two boys who attend the same school pitched against each other in a little league all star game and both were league age 12. One of those boys is in the 10th grade now and one is in the 8th grade now. I don't care why really, I trust the parents make choices that are best for the child. I have not seen the 8th grader play basketball but I would feel safe to say the he has an advantage over those he is playing against at that level. As the kids get older, those advantages tend to disappear.

It is an advantage to some, but is within the rules. It is a non-issue until the appropriate political body changes the rules and that is not going to happen. Children are held back for many reasons, athletics being only one.

From what I read, Zonebuster started talking about the JV game. Not elementary level. But, thanks for the help SB. There was no overreaction on my part. Just a request to get back to the thread topic. And FYI, my spouse is a Raceland grad and I'm an Ashland grad. No need to make insinuations about my mental health.

Nope, I suspect that they will lose the remainder of their games, and they are hitting a wall from the redundancy of repeating so many grades! Good luck to my young/old Royals and I hope you can somehow eek out another win somewhere along the line. :rolleyes:

Rose Hill is much too talented to drop too many games. They have hit a cold streak against a couple of well prepared teams. I still say they will surprise some people THIS year.

And besides its not like the good people of Ashland dont cry when they get beat. We just need to tune in the radio to liston to Dirk and Dickie blast away at the refs to find an excuse. If I were an official I wouldnt put up with that crap. Of course Dickie sure was loving on Coldiron before the game. Must have worked.

I have agreed with scooterbob from the start. Rose Hill is at least a year away. Elliott should win next year, if not this year.

 

Ashland by at least 7 and it could get ugly.

Since the Old Duckster couldn't get any accolades from even Frances on this bold prediction, I'll pat myself on the back.

Johnny Bush leaves everything out on the court. I love his competiveness and he never complains. Remember hes only a sophomore- hes developing in to a very good player.

After reading the paper and watching the game here is my final post.

 

Ashland won the game and was well prepared. They played hard and phyisical and had different players step up and make plays. The Royals shouldnt worry to much about this loss though. It took 4 phantom fouls on the younger Jackson and were outshot on the free throw line 25-4. Malloy, Bush, and Arthur looked very comfortable out on the floor tonight which is a great sign that the team is maturing and will be much better come March. Man what tournament the 64th will be. It could be better than the regional tourament. Which ever 2 teams come out ot the 64th (and it could be any of the four) will have a shot at a rematch in the finals.

Its still a long time till March. No need for any team to throw in the towel.
