move someone from a 5 or 6 team (preferably the 6 team) district to the 3 team district.  The 15th did it several years ago and moved Lawrence Co to a different district.  Sometimes the geography doesn't make sense. 

I broke this down by district for our radio show discussion today.  It certainly seems time to make some changes. Number of schools per region...

1st = 15, 2nd = 16, 3rd = 15, 4th = 18, 5th = 19, 6th = 20, 7th = 22, 8th = 19, 9th = 21, 10th = 16, 11th = 19, 12th = 19, 13th = 17, 14th = 17, 15th = 15, 16th = 16

Seems like the schools in the central part(6th-9th) of the state could push out to the east and west and even the number of teams in each region.  Seems a little unbalanced at the moment.

There could also be a proposal that gets all the Kenton County schools in the same region. It's gonna be interesting. 

Worth remembering not to overcount the number of teams in Regions 6, 7, and 9 - those that have all-girls and all-boys schools. 

6th - DeSales and Mercy. 

7th - Assumption, Presentation, Sacred Heart, St. Xavier, and Trinity. 

TBD - 6th or 7th, wherever Grace James and WEB Du Bois land. 

9th - Covington Catholic and Notre Dame.

Geographically speaking the 6th, 7th, 9th, and 11th will and should have more teams.  I don’t think it’s about making them all “even” in number.  I think the main changes will be in Louisville and Lexington.  NKY hasn’t had a major school join the KHSAA since Cooper in 2008.  Lexington area has added Douglass and Great Crossing.  Louisville has added a few smaller schools and so has Northern Kentucky, but no major competitors for region titles  

I’m a traditional “10th Region” guy.  I am okay with Campbell and Brossart but Scott and Calvary joining the 10th Region has always felt odd.  I thought it would have made more sense to add the other Campbell County schools first  

I think the main reason Campbell County joined the 10th Region in 1996 was because of the completion of the AA highway, which made easy access to the rest of the “10th Region”.  

What do the 9th Region “traditionalist” think?  Highlands, Dayton, Newport, Bellevue, and Newport Catholic would be the be the next schools in the 10th Region.  The 10th is obviously much easier to win, because if they joined, it would kick Montgomery County and George Rogers Clark out.  But how do you feel about no longer being in the region that your school has been a part of for nearly a century?

I would move Scott & Calvary back to the 9th.  Bracken & Augusta the 38th.  Robertson to the 39th.

Of course, these rankings change from year to year.  Danville is down this year but with the improvement of DCA you have 4 teams in the 45th that are usually pretty decent in DCA, Danville, Boyle, and Lincoln.  

I'm not sure there's a better way to do it given the location of the schools.  If you look at a map it kind of makes sense but going from Lexington (Trinity Christian) to McCreary or Wayne is a pretty big territory to cover.  Lincoln is centrally located and could be moved to the 47th but I doubt if PC or Somerset would want that.  

I’m always shocked that Russell County isn’t part of the 12th. I know the time change could be an issue, but they are closer to the teams in the 12th than they are the 4th. 
It has been rumored for years that Lincoln would be coming to the 47th. I think Lincoln County would dread that move more so than Pulaski or Somerset. Outside of boys basketball the 47th would be tougher for Lincoln to make a regional than the 45th.

I agree with you on Russell County.  That never made any sense to me.  I played at Somerset and in four years we scrimmaged them one time yet the two counties border each other.  However, it was routine to get on a bus and ride to Henry Clay, Paris, or Anderson County……

I can’t speak for everyone, but as a 9th Region guy I think it makes much more sense to have all the Campbell County schools move to the 10th and see the 10th lose Montgomery County and GRC to become more of a “northern” Region. I would also think it makes sense to have the 9th Region just be Boone and Kenton County schools (taking Walton and Simon Kenton back from the 8th) because I think the 8th is going to start to trend more “Southern “ toward Louisville. The districts would look like this:

33rd: Walton, Cooper, Ryle, Simon Kenton

34th: Boone County, Conner, Heritage, St Henry, Lloyd

35th: Dixie, Beechwood, CovCath, Ludlow, Villa

36th: Holmes, CovLatin, Holy Cross, Scott, Calvary Christian

I can see why Trimble would want to get away from the Oldham school district.  They never had a chance there.  

Back in 2012 I took the time to redistrict the entire state to eliminate 3 team districts. Obviously there have been a few schools added in the last 12 years, but here would be a pretty good start.

I like the idea of putting both Jessamine schools in the 11th.

Yes, I said I did that back in 2012. There's been some changes since then, but those changes would be easy to fix.
