Honestly it would be hard for me to name 2 or 3 WRs better than him. He has those long strides that sneak up on people and consistently gets open deep if not doubled covered. Plus literally will catch anything that is close to him. The best part for him is he is still only getting better at WR, as he has only played WR for 2 years in his life. He was always a QB before that.

The recruitment does surprise that more teams haven’t came after him, but I do think that will change this year. I think the bigger compliment that shows how good Isaiah Johnson is, is how teams try to defend him. Even though Cooper has Austin Alexander on the opposite side of the field at WR too, who also is a load to deal with obviously. Isaiah Johnson is the guy teams usually try to double and keep a safety over top of, which then leaves Austin Alexander single covered. Anytime teams tried to single cover Isaiah Johnson it was game over, so teams last year by the end of the year rarely left him single covered.

I agree finding 2 or 3 better is a challenge , I personally don’t think he’s better than Arnold or Surrey from Highlands who both hold offers from Marshall and Arnold holds one from Air Force as well. I think Beechwood’s two receivers (Fryman and Erdman) are right there in the conversation with them as well. Johnson will see more offers as the year goes on , I thought he seemed like a good kid on the field and just kept his mouth shut and handled business, gotta like that these days.

  • Not sure why all the discussion on Cooper's QB being injured is so important. Injuries are part of the game and let's just hope ALL players from ALL teams stay healthy.

I agree the Johnson kid is definitely one of the top receivers in the state.  Unfortunately college coaches check boxes and I assume maybe he doesn’t check the speed box.  It will be their loss because I think he is definitely a power 5 kid.  All the other NKY kids you mentioned are also very deserving of accolades but don’t sleep on the other Beechwood receiver James Cusick.  6’0” 175 lbs, 37 inch vertical, super athletic, catches anything that is close to him and ran a laser timer 4.57 40 at the Naval Academy camp this summer.  Somebody is going to get an early Christmas program when they get this kid.  If any college coaches see this post you better go as quick as you can and offer this kid.

Would have to agree to disagree on that as I do think he is better than both of those Highlands receivers you mentioned. Everyone you mentioned though are great talents and deserving of the looks they are getting.

I think Johnson (and Alexander too for that matter) was one of the best WRs BG faced last season (along with the Harbin kid from St X).  The catch he made on 4th and 10 with BG up in the State Championship game was super clutch.  It was a good ball from OHara, but not a great one.  Johnson made a great catch on it and kept the Jaguars in the game.  That was really impressive to me.  Good luck to the young man going to the next level!  He's worthy for sure!

Austin Alexander and Isaiah Johnson were both recognized by the Cincinnati Enquirer as two of the Top 10 receivers in Greater Cincinnati heading into the 2024 football season.

If you want to know just about everything about Cooper this year so far, check out this video, very professional with Tom Gamble hosting it at Bareleycorns in Florence.
