Arkansas State 75 Louisville 63

If I am Louisville I kick the tires on Bruce Pearl.

Pearl is a guy who brings instant fanfare and intrigue and it would fire the whole state of KY up in one way or another.

  • This is more of a statement about college basketball, but it just seems to be declining in allure and intrigue. Whether it is level of play, NIL, transfer portal, or what, there just isn't the same le

  • I agree. I think "big fish" is going to mean an established coach with a winning record, tournament experience and the ability to recruit top talent, and/or utilize NIL.  I would expect Louisvill

  • I submit to you the Michael Myers of college basketball:

It’s laughable how sports writers are currently writing about and discussing how Kenny Payne should be gone before Louisville basketball hits rock bottom. I think it’s been there, the more recent losses and other things happening is only adding to it.

Right. Rock bottom was 4-28. We've just been sitting on the bottom since then.

What's the buyout situation with Payne?

$8 million until season's end, $6 million after.

Pearl is younger than I thought, at 63.  But he's still no spring chicken.  I picture someone younger, a la Nate Oates or Shaka Smart.

BUT....Pearl is good at using program nostalgia to endear himself to the fan base (See the orange blazer like Ray Mears).   I could see him in a Red coat with the rose in the lapel.   But like I said, at 63, he hardly seems like a long term answer.

Agreed. I like the idea of Pearl, but 63 is too old.

U of L needs instant juice.  Pearl is the best in a new situation first 3-5 years.  After 5-7 years program is back and they can pick their coach.

Agreed.  Pearl is a guy that can get things going from 0 to 80 immediately.  I don't ever see him being a successful guy after the first few years anywhere.

I certainly wouldn't hate it if Pearl was the answer, but I highly doubt he would be considered.

It would be great for the whole state.  It probably won't happen...but he would be the guy that would most get under Cal's skin IMO.

I'd really love/hate that for the UL program haha

The last thing that needs to happen is for anything UK-related factoring into anything UofL related.

I get that...I am not so sure that he isn't one of the best names for the job...I also think he would jump on it...

The by product would be pure entertainment...!

Would Pearl even consider U of L right now? As you folks say, he's 63. It would take a year or two minimum to get the dumpster fire under control and he seems to be rolling at Auburn. As you get a little older the drama of a rebuild is not as alluring, especially at a school like Louisville where success is expected immediately.
