With every game I found myself stepping closer to TheDeuce's corner.  Now I am firmly in the camp.   Pull the plug, now.

Hate to see someone lose their job right before Christmas but it's time to go.

Or we can just blame the players for not playing good enough.

If you remember, I started a Kenny Payne thread a while back alluding to the fact that there was an altercation at practice between Payne and a player. It was Koron Davis. They tried to say nothing happened, but Davis has not dressed since, has not been present, and has been seen sitting in the stands in games recently. Payne has multiple times said he wasn't in trouble, but that he couldn't give any more details. 

I'm pretty sure the staff told him he wasn't going to be on the team, and they tried to "help" him by saying he was transferring. He then said he wasn't transferring, so they put out another statement saying he had been dismissed from the team. 

KP and staff have put on a master class of what not to do, in a hundred different ways. 

I never liked the hire of KP when it happened.  UL is too accomplished to have a first time HC, even if it is a beloved former player and current assistant coach (when he was hired).  No doubt, KP is a great man, nice person, and knows basketball; but, he is not a HC at a major D1 program.  He just has the wrong disposition to be a HC.  

With that being said, who is the likely successor if they let KP go?  Most all of the other UL programs, both men's and women's, are at, or near the top of their respective sports; Volleyball, Women's BB, Football, Baseball, etc., but the Men's BB program is a mess.  Who do you think can get us back on track?

I don't know what the answer is for who's next, mostly because you never really know who is "available." I do think there will be some big fish interested in this job, but we'll never know who they are if they currently have another gig.

That situation sounds messy, complicated by the fact he goes and sits in the stands to stir the pot.

This is more of a statement about college basketball, but it just seems to be declining in allure and intrigue. Whether it is level of play, NIL, transfer portal, or what, there just isn't the same level of recognition getting into the collegiate game. Your biggest "stars" in college basketball are coaches and those guys are on the back nine of their careers. I can't see Jon Scheyer or Shaka Smart moving the needle. Point being, I do not know what it even means to be a "big fish" any longer?

I agree. I think "big fish" is going to mean an established coach with a winning record, tournament experience and the ability to recruit top talent, and/or utilize NIL. 

I would expect Louisville to be able to hire somebody that every college basketball fan would know based on name alone.

First name that comes to mind for me is Shaka Smart. I know the Texas tenure wasn't great but he's done well everywhere else. He might be interested in staying at Marquette but I'm sure the resources at Louisville are better.

Part of the problem with a "big fish" or "established coach" is there aren't a ton of those in college basketball right now. You can see by the recent hires at Carolina, Duke, Villanova, and Syracuse that the options weren't overflowing as they have been at other times in history.
