Corbin has been the Redhounds as far back as November 18, 1939. This is their 100th football season, so it may well pre-date 1939.

Here's another calling them the Redhounds. November 15, 1928 from the Courier-Journal.

@Paul Dean, you deserve this. Don't stop till your arm falls off.

  • Wow. A 6-0 game with two powerhouses, don’t see that much anymore.  I like a good defensive game.

This is what I love so much about BGP! Where else can you get caught up on all the days scores, the weeks happenings and get a history lesson all in one that dates back as far as dates go?

I'd like to point out that Maroon is a shade of Red. Also speculating, Corbin possibly got tired of or maybe actually liked being called the Red Hounds and changed their colors to Red and White to become the Redhounds we know today. I really couldn't say for sure because I wasn't there and had not even been born. But what I can say is that I will contact the lady who owns the yearbook and get pictures so that we can all know with confidence that Corbin's colors were Maroon and White before they were Red and White.

Was Carpenter benched, hurt, or graduated?

It seems to be a secret. He was benched against X, was in full gear and warming up vs Hoban and Trinity, and then the past two games has been in street clothes.

Okay, I sent a request to the owner of the Corbin yearbook for pictures so that I could verify what I had said about the fact that Corbin's colors were Maroon and White before they were Red and White.  I'm including the pictures that I received. I was wrong about the date on the yearbook. I said late 1930s but it was 1936.

Very cool...thanks for posting @addout! Semi-interesting that their colors are maroon and white and then they call their team the Redhounds at the same time. Of course, maroon is a tone of the color red, so I guess it's really six of one, half-dozen of the other.

When the school first had a football team in the fall of 1924, they were called the Corbin Railsplitters and their colors then were purple and gold. They changed their nickname to Redhounds sometime in the early to mid 1930's.

This is what I love so much about BGP!
