Shows the difference at the top in 5A and 1A football. I was surprised when Highlands scheduled this series two years ago.

Highlands is a different team this year compared to the one that played Raceland the last time. I would be more likely to agree with that now and wouldn’t have as much the first time around. I believe Highlands has turned that much of a corner since.

Wow.  Impressive win on the road for the Birds.  Like a runaway train and just rammed the Rams.

Raceland hosts Newport Central Catholic in a big 1A showdown.

Interested in seeing how Newport Catholic does. Pretty well everyone following the state overall with football knows what Raceland is. This is good timing to find out where Newport Catholic stands in 1A currently.

Should be interesting, but really feel like Raceland wins something like 35-6. NCC seems to be struggling so far.

Anyone have any stats yet from the game?

This game was over after the leftover Grand Finale WEBN fireworks. One thing I didn’t like was Benke still in the game late in 4th with runny clock. At receiver no less. Highlands doesn’t  need any unnecessary injuries. Running clock at that point. Let the JV finish and get back to the fort healthy. Anyway, great game and atmosphere.

Side note, talked with some of the Highlands coaches at halftime and they were saying how the hospitality was wonderful. Said one guy even said how excited they were to have a program like Highlands come to town and play. Great job Raceland. Good luck rest of year!

I look at this game as more of a statement on how well Highlands is playing now, versus some 1A vs 5A mismatch. Just last year this was a 24-14 score, and Raceland is better this year than last. So Highlands putting a 40-0 win on the board is a huge statement win for the Birds IMO.

I'm going to say Raceland wins that one. The Breds just are not going to be able to hang. O-line issues still.

Good focused win.  Birds started great and took any thoughts of a competitive game out of the equation early.  Now to buckle down and get ready for district play.  On to Cooper!

Total domination on defense for Highlands.  Raceland had some bright spots on defense, but could not produce much offense due to the dominating Highlands defense.   Congratulations to the Bluebirds.

Thanks for the updates!

Last years game obviously much closer than this year. But the game last year wasn’t as close as the score. Highlands was on the 1 with a chance to go up 31-7. Stopped and Raceland made a king drive against the backups.

Where'd the 7 come from? Pitched a shut out

This was “Business Trip” for the Birds. Kids were focused and not overly fired up. Just got in and got out. This could have been much worse with a little more emphasis on the run game late. They were gashing the Rams for 6-10 yards a carry in the 2nd half. On to next week.

From Highlands Football on Facebook.

Highlands goes down and gets it done. I was way off.
