Promising, But Unproven, Contenders Look To Bolster Resumès

Records: Both are 2-0

BGP Rankings: Greenwood (#9 in 5A) | OCath (#4 in 2A)

Week 2 Results: Greenwood beat Warren East 38-6 | OCath beat Daviess County 50-0

Series History: If they've met before, it pre-dates KHSAA archives (1998)

Burning Question: Are the Gators and Aces for real? Both have looked strong through two weeks, but they're looking up at programs with a championship pedigree. There are demons to exorcize. Greenwood has never beaten class #1 and district mate Bowling Green. Owensboro Catholic has been on the doorstep and fallen short as a four time state runner-up. But those bridges are further down the road. Before the Gators can worry about Deuce Bailey, they have to worry about Brady Atwell. The Aces can't think about 2A's "Big 3" with a top ten 5A squad in front of them. Atwell has accounted for eleven touchdowns already this season and is a rising star in the junior class. Greenwood's defense will provide the challenge for Atwell after clamping down hard on Warren East's Dane Parsley, another standout junior quarterback.

If you're an old fashioned radio guy, we'll have the call on 1027 The Game tonight here.. https://owensbororadio.com/player/?playerID=606 This should be a really fun game.  I think a lot of

Aces are loaded.  Beat Owensboro last year, had LCA at the 1 yard line and ran out of time.  Carrico brothers, Atwell.  I don’t know how the lines compare but after Greenwood loses Lofton Howard, I’m rolling Aces by 14+.  2A is loaded up top and Catholic is right there.

Idk about this one. Greenwood seems to be a little underrated. They have the size and physicality to play with just about anyone and return 2 key play makers in Elmo Stewart and Tel Tel Long that will be difficult for the Aces to stop… On the other hand the Aces will bring an offensive prowess that Gators have yet to see in either of there matchups. This should be a good 1… It’s a toss up of who wins for me.

I think Greenwood wins a tight one.

Really surprised how GW manhandled W East. This is easily their biggest test  so far. They will have to control the ball a little offensively.

Really tough game to call here.  Greenwood playing awefully well, but this will be the best team they have faced this season.  I will say the same thing for OCath.

Greenwood has scored 87 points in 2 games and given up 20.

OCath has scored 92 points and given up 6 in 2 games.  Pretty similar and pretty similar competition.

I think GW needs to use ball control like The Barber said.  OCath likely a little more explosive, but GW likely a little bigger on the lines.

If this game were closer to me I'd go on Friday night, going to be a great one.

Greenwood by 6 so basically close game.

Greenwood struggles to keep up with Catholic.

Catholic 42-7

The Owensboro Game will be a good game but I'm going to go ahead and make a prediction. I love the Devils but I'm going to go Catholic 35-21.

If the Aces win by that much then they have to get moved to #1 or #2 in 2A because I don’t see anybody else in 2A being able to beat GW by that much. That would wake the state up on OC forsure.

This is such a tough game for me to call. I know how good O-Cath is, but I’m not as familiar with Greenwood, but have seen the scores and the dominating performance against Warren East, they look like the real deal.
I’m gonna go with Greenwood, as I feel like they have seen the same type of athletes from Warren East as they will see from Catholic, and handled them very well, plus contained Parsley from Warren East who I think is super tough to defend.
Greenwood-35 Catholic-28
