Just think about what this does for basketball at Boyle as well, Brown was started to break out in the district tournament, with a backcourt of quisenberry, brown and turner, it could possibly be the best in the region, and it may not be close.

He's a season changer typer player. If your team is full of supporting cast type kids? He makes you a handful (at least) of games better that you otherwise lose and/or are scratching and clawing with everything in you to make it a good game, win or lose. He's that kind of guy.

It's the same with Quisenberry, Dawson, etc. They are those types of players. Just get them the ball. Quisenberry is a prime example of that, as a freshman playing QB, he had 2,500 total yards. I know some out there will bring up the scheme he was in or wasn't in and that's just foolishness, just save it. 2,500 yards both rushing and passing is just that...2,500 and as a freshman. He plays for Garrard this year? You are easily looking at a 8-9 win team, maybe more with a. possible region title appearance. Guess what (you know this, but for others)? He still gets his offers. Take into consideration they had another game breaker type player move over the summer? Then their best RB injured and out for the season early on? Who knows the season they have.

Bottom line is? It's players. It's always been about players and it always will be. All the feel good stuff and sayings? Culture, next man up, off season work? Bull.

There are plenty of places that have teams of good, hardworking, respectful, dedicated kids. There are plenty of places that have players, despite their differences in natural ability/experience, that have coaches ready put them in the best situation they can at the time to serve their team to the best of their abilities, there are plenty of places where kids have been getting after it in the weight room/track, etc.

If you think everyone around is working as hard in the off-season as some of these teams you're just wrong. Especially the kids at Boyle.

People like Calico Jack say things like that to make themselves feel good about their mediocre program and to disparage kids from making decisions that are best for them. Garrard would have been significantly better than they were with Quisenberry but I am sorry to tell Calico that he would not have the same opportunities if he was still there. He would have never been able to play on the biggest stage if he was still there because the school district does not care if they are successful. The UKs and ULs are not going to come watch Garrard County play a Rockcastle or a Bell. But they will go watch a FD play LCA or Boyle play LCA. The field is loaded with top level talent when teams like the above mentioned play each other. 

In regards to jimmies and joes, when you get to the top level of play, everyone in the semifinals and championship games has them. If your belief was true then the team with the most talent would win every year and I know Boyle has been outgunned a few times and still won. Coaching, culture, etc is what separates in the end. 

Good news for Boyle in most of their games they will be up so much they can spread the wealth around to all the above-mentioned players, and stay healthy throughout the season.

If the talent is there, the scouts will be there as well, so I adamantly disagree with the statement that scouts will not go watch Garrard County's games.

So, back to original topic of Danville collapsing.  You would think they would have to try to fight at some point, or remain a feeder system? ?

Tell me all the scouts that were at Garrard games when he was there? If you are college coach why would you go watch 1 player or go watch 8 players that are competing at a high level. Then those college programs keep going back to the same schools because they know they will have talent. 

 

Well before Spencer, they only allowed 1 coach in the building. Did not have in school weightlifting. Had terrible facilities. Do you want me to keep going on? They finally started to invest in the program.

He was THE ONLY D1 athlete on the field. This was not a "top tier" game that week. 

Coaches will find you. It's that simple. Coaches would have found Tavy at Garrard, Dawson at Danville, and Mari at Danville. Is what it is. 

As far as the main purpose of this thread, Danville school system needs to look at some things. But, I do think they can find a way throguh it. 

As with most places, I think with Danville getting its feet grounded and back to success it all comes down to leadership.  People like Bill Grimes, Bob Rowland, and those before them did a good job building something long-term and had a continuity of vision for the district.  But you can't do that if you keep switching superintendents - or not getting the right people - because new supers have come in, cleaned house with admin at all levels, and imposed a new vision that does not last long.  Danville non-renewed its superintendent in 2018 and things have been in chaos since.  They've got a new guy at the helm and the jury is still out on the results, but I think some of the exodus from Danville of students, teachers, athletes, etc. is people getting tired of the continual turnover and chaos.

Damien Harris was a once in a generation talent. He is playing for the Patriots and went to Alabama! Yes if they are once in a generation they will find you but besides that no. 

If that is the case about all of those players why did they come to Boyle? Rings are nice but it was for the opportunities. It is what it is. Boyle has better opportunities for athletes than anyone else in the area. It is what it is.

True story, a college coach came to Boyle to check out some of the players. Coach Haddix told him when he left he should go check out Mason Sulla at Garrard County because he had the size he was looking for. The coach said he had never heard of Garrard County and went and checked him out and was a huge fan. 

Coaches will find most of your 3-5 star kids. But your fringe kids sure can benefit from consistently being on the radar because of their teammates and the schedule they play on the big stage.
