Would be interesting to see at 24/25 where he’d rank in state and even the country regarding his age. Certainly would have to be one of the youngest varsity head coaches.

I’m told Woody has applied. Bringing the known names of those getting an interview to McMillen, Shelton, and Pence.

From what I’ve read, all 3 totally different.

Small school has to be able to recruit the hallways or have a staff in the building. Otherwise numbers will crumble.

Does he have a background or experience with low income area like Ludlow? CovCath recruits itself, Ludlow and small school football is a different beast compared to CovCath. Has to be high on the list of qualities if I were making the hire. That and experience. Does he have the experience as an assistant to run a program?

I agree with this point. Also how is a 25yo with 0 HC experience a home run hire to people? Also with a guy like that what's going to stop him from looking to other jobs as retirements are coming around.

I know he either grew up in Ludlow or played for Ludlow, so it’s not a foreign land to him. As for experience, he’s clearly done something right to be named a coordinator by Eviston directly out of college and done enough to impress Ludlow’s committee getting an interview.

And even tenures like that are almost always  at places that are few and far between, like Beechwood, Mayfield, Bowling Green, Bardstown, Male, X, T, Pikeville, Highlands, etc. Even with the periods of turnover that even some of those schools have had (some have had very few in the last 50-70 years- namely Bardstown, Mayfield, BG, Russell being another) the average tenures still come out to be 10-15 years overall for the programs.

100%. 

Those days are over. You don’t want to be used as a stepping stone, but you also have to admire the coaches work if they are being sought out by bigger and “better” programs.

It would likely take an alumnus being successful within the first couple years at their old stomping grounds. And a small school like Ludlow is the ideal spot for such a phenomena, provided an exceptionally passionate and bright football mind has indeed walked the halls there. 

Was told this morning with only a few coaches getting interviews to begin with, they hope to have a decision by Friday. 

Rather quick 1 week interview process leads me to believe they already have their answer. 

I was told Shelton interviewed yesterday. Not sure when others are scheduled.

Believe he made an appearance in the weight room as the guys were working out and talking with a few of the previous staff members. Not sure if that means something or not, or if that’s standard procedure for all those applying. 

But if they expect a decision by Friday, I’d have to assume they need to wrap up interviews by today or tomorrow at the latest.
