So what you are saying his last good team was in 2015? Ok, so the past 8 years has been a rebuild and "right the ship" as you put it endeavor. And to use the argument of how many current coaches have a state final appearance, regional championship or multiple ones is perfect. There aren't because they are shown the door after given so many opportunities and failing. Time for a fresh start at Cooper, step back and do the AD thing, give a young upcoming coach a chance.

You are flying solo here and sounds like you may have an ax to grind and not sure why but ok.  The program is in good shape and the middle school program seems to have good numbers as well so I am sure the Cooper staff will continue to coach the players as best they can and put them in the best position to be as successful as they can be.

First, congratulations to Pavey on his success and hope it continues for him as it sounds like the change in scenery has benefited him.  Second, for blanket statements that NKY coaches don’t promote

  • A bit harsh for a guy who has a state championship appearance under his belt. Winning is hard. Additionally, the grass isn't always greener.

They have a great coach he would be hard to replace!

The 2015 team was the last one that made a deep run. 2016 also had a winning record and playoff win. Then yeah 2017 talent went down some and had some down years. Then the last two years had winning records again as the talent is starting to go back up again. With last year having a winning record led by a team with a freshman QB and best skill players being sophomores. So you’re wanting to get rid of a coach who is getting turned back around and had winning records last two years and doing it with a rather young team. Yeah makes sense. ??

Also those coaches you are talking about aren’t shown the door at all. I think you would be surprised how rarely any coaches are ever truly shown the door or forced out. Especially in term of wins and loses.  Has nothing to do with who is the AD or coach. Very few schools ever get rid of a coach because of wins or losses even if the coach is the AD or not. So you are just completely off base here.

No ax to grind, just stating simple analytical data. I am sure all the coaches will do their best to teach and coach the young men. The kids are a great group, I just believe they need someone different to lead.

You have a strong misconception of how many coaches are truly fired, especially for on field performance.

Well, numbers don't lie. Overall record is 84-87 thru 15 seasons as the coach. He has had 8 losing seasons. Been sent home the 1st round of playoffs 7 times, 2nd round 2 times, 3rd round 1 time, 1x in semi's and 1x in the state finals. That state final team was 11 years ago, 11 years!! He has some really good talent in that time frame too. So, my opinion may be unpopular, but it is backed up with data. Can someone else tell me in the Northern Ky area where a coach has had an overall losing record over 15 years and still has the job? Again, the separation of AD and coach is a must. ?

Not to mention the school was a start-up school in 2008 where freshman were playing varsity in 6A (babies playing grown men analogy).  The first three years the school was 8-22 and the team didn't realize a winning record until 2011 (6-5).  The next year they were playing in the state finals after having to play every playoff game on the road!  So in 5 years Coach Borchers had a start-up school playing in the state finals.  I'll take the stats above and some lean years.  As @BigRob stated, his opinion is unpopular and there are several coaches not just in NKY but around the state that would welcome the Cooper coach's accolades.  And as @BillNyestated, winning is hard and Cooper will be just fine.

Using numbers in posts above, his record over the past 12 years is 76-65. Tough districts, tough schedules and tough playoff opponents. Some playoff success including a trip to a championship  game. He has earned the position to see what he can do over the next couple years with a lot of talent.

If we measure a team's outlook by talent, Cooper is near the top of the list this year.

Copper just placed 7 on 7 not sure how they did anyone with info?

Best post of the thread. Take out the first 3 years from when the school was first founded and all in all the teams hav when competitive.

Solid, yet simple, analytical data here.

Cooper players doing community service, from Facebook:

Great work by our players today. After practicing this morning, the team then did a community service project for two hours at Ockerman Elementary School. Players were out there pulling weeds, planting flowers, and spreading mulch out. It’s a great group of young men!

And let's not forget its Boone County.  Four high schools... all of which are 5A or 6A... the current demographics just don't allow for a year in year out dominant program.  You are going to have windows of time that are better than others.  Cooper is currently in one of those windows.  When this group filters through they will still be good but maybe not as good as their current makeup.  The only other county in the state that I think is comparable to Boone in this regard is Warren.  Would you imagine how dominant Boone County schools would be at 6A with only two high schools like, say, Scott County ??
