2007 Corbin

Featured Replies

Corbin only has 3 titles- 1982, 1980, and 1976. Corbin were state runner-ups in 1977 and 1962. :thumb:

They won two before the KHSAA started the current format. They were also runners up in 90 or 91 and in 2002. Many other Corbin teams should have won state such as 96, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004 but that's just one of those could've would've should've things where the cards didn't fall in place.

Who does Corbin scrimmage and when?

You are correct...runner ups in 2002 and 1990....:ylsuper:

Corbin has been 2A since 2000 correct? No offense. but I think that statement is quite misleading. There is no "should have" to it, at best in those years listed it was a "could of won state" case. You forget that in those years listed there were some dominant 2A teams.

If so, in 2000 they definately could not have stopped that VERY good Boyle County team before making their jump to 3A, that team lead by Matt Quinn just dominated the other 2A teams.

In 2001 Bardstown was in a different class compared to the other 2A teams, the only 2A team to stay within 4 TD's of them was Louisville Moore, they crushed a VERY good Pburg team in the state finals.

2003, I will give you that they definately could have given Belfry a good game. That Pirate team was very sound, but Corbin had a good run defense.

But, in 2004 that Belfry team could have competed with any team in the state, and featured arguably the best backfield in state history (at the time the second most rushing yards all time in a single season). No matter how good of a run defense Corbin had, there was no way they could have stopped that backfield with that monster line.

Corbin has always been AA....And I think the best team that didn't make was in '83.....but oh well one of those things....

I hear that they are really getting worked hard this summer. Coach Jewell always has his teams ready for battle but when they get high expectations put on them, it seems like he takes it up a notch. This group of kids seem to be ready to handle any pressure they receive this year. I look forward to getting to see them play some ball.

Is this the year Dale Fox ran the ball for the hounds?

I think that you may be thinking of 1984 when Corbin was beaten by Newport Central Catholic in the playoffs when Frank Jacobs was Mr. Football, but I guess that Dale Fox would have been on the 83 team as well.

Next Friday vs. Clay County at Campbell Field.

Is this the Grid-o-rama? Who is the the other game? I think Knox Central is one but I don't know who the opponent is.

That's the year Greg Taylor ran the ball....

Dale got to the high school in '84.

Greg Taylor's senior year in football was 1981.

If the big boy you are speaking of is Aaron Manns ---- Coach P is not stopping him or any other player from playing football. Aaron simply does not want to play. Believe me, he has been asked and encouraged to play many times from other fans, former little league coaches, and even his own dad. He just simply doesn't want to play. This is not the fault of any coach.

You are correct! What Coach P is guilty of...turning Corbin into a basketball school too. Aaron and other incoming freshmen and sophmores have gotten used to traveling to Florida during XMAS to play/vacation, AAU Tourneys, and having a chance to play at the Sweet 16. You gotta admit that playing inside for about 9 months then taking a break and playing a little golf for 3 months is pretty nice.

Expectations are greater for the Redhound Basketball program now than for the Football program.

Let's get back on topic and remember what 'Ru said....."Please be constructive".

Coaches should not try to presuade kids not to play other sports, I think that is a big problem at SL.

Back on the topic Corbin should have a good regular season but will falter in the playoffs they will go only as far as Jewell lets Farris take them.
