2007 Corbin

For the record, with the graduation losses Middlesboro suffered from last season, and the perennial poor defense that the Jackets are known for, I don't think M-boro will be "far far far better" than anyone.

There has been some local heat on Coach Jewell and staff. If they dont produce with all the hype and returning players this year it could get alot worse. They should win their district but that wont be near enough to keep the faithful happy.

Interesting that you have the perspective Fever. I doubt anyone could work harder or have more pride in Hound football than Coach Jewell.

Didnt say he didnt. I think all HS football coaches have pride and work hard but thats not always enough to keep the fans happy

I think the faithful will be happy this year, it will be a very exciting year. This team is very talented. As long as there is no injurys at key spots we will be allright. These kids have matured alot as individuals and as a team, they realize the potential they have if they work together. It will be an exciting year, we will all just have to wait to til the 24th.

I'm just not seeing why folks are talking about a state title in Corbin.

If you dont set your goals high enough, then you may never reach as high as you could have.

I'm just not seeing why folks are talking about a state title in Corbin. They only beat two teams last year with a winning record. A better than average single A team in Lex christian, and a bad 2A team in Wayne County.

They did make it to the Regional Finals BUT they only had to be their fellow district teams to do so. Middlesboro will be far far far better than any team in their district a year ago.

I'm not saying Corbin won't be good, I think they will. But competing for a state title might be a stretch.

I understand what you are saying due to the past two years not being the best in Corbin history. Last year they really turned it on at the end of the season though and could compete with any 2A team in the state. With that said, if you are familiar with Corbin football, you will realize that winning state titles are not something us fans hope for. It is something that is expected. It's been 25 years since Corbin won their 5th title but there have been many years since then where the Redhounds were good enough to win. This year Corbin is expected to be good enough to win and with hard work, it's more of a likelihood than a stretch.

Like I said expectations are high..I hope the Hounds do well along with the other area teams...but the heat, talk, pressure is on...district championship wont satisfy the faithful!

They looked good at their Midnight Practice tonight. Campbell and Fritts looked extrememly good as well as the line. Campbell is gonna be hard for any 3 or 4 men to stop. Cashen was impressive as ever and looked to be in great shape and could move very well.

You're 100% correct. Expectations often begat results. I see nothing wrong with those responsible for preparing and playing setting those expectations high. BUT, I think that unrealistic expectations by the fan base can lead to bad things. And I guess what I was saying, was that there's nothing wrong with setting your goals high. But when Corbin doesn't meet (if they don't) those high expecatations, there shouldn't be calls for the Head Coach to be fired or have major changes. And in the past 25 years since the last title, that's happened quite a bit. A team acheives good success, but the fan base was unrealistic and thought they should have gone farther.

The Corbin coaching job is very similar to the UK basketball coaching job. It's one of the best yet one of the worst jobs a coach can dream of. The support, facilities, tradition, ect are second to none. However the pressure of this job ranks right up there with the best in the state. Everywhere you go, you will have fans that cannot be satisfied. That is the same here at Corbin. Sure there are times when the coaches may not make the best judgement on plays or decisions but that happens everywhere. Nobody is ever going to be perfect. However, you can still be awful dang good. That is exactly what the Corbin coaching staff is. You couldn't find a better fit for the Redhounds in my mind. Each coach knows what it takes to win and you can bet that they do their very best to win 15 games a year. Those are the goals and im sure they are just as unhappy as fans are when they aren't achieved.

The pressure has been turned up the past two seasons due to more losses than normal. Pressure brings out the best in people and I feel you will see it this year. I hate seeing Corbin lose 6 games in one year as much as the next person but you have to look at the big picture. Corbin is a 2A school and year in and year out, you're not going to win 10-12 games. There will be down seasons. Talent and cohesiveness comes in waves at smaller schools. The past two seasons the stars just weren't aligned. Whether or not it was new linemen, new recievers, or whatever. This year, the stars seem to be more aligned and Corbin should have a fine team. The Hounds look solid across the board.

People just need to be more realistic before they speak their mind. This staff knows their football. If they weren't getting Corbin to the playoffs in these past two "down seasons", the headhunters may have a case. They took the cards they were dealt and improved each week over the past two seasons. Look for good things in Redhound Country this season. Don't be so hard on the coaches and let them do their job.

Corbin automaticly made the playoffs the past two seasons anyway because of four-team district. But anyway, the Hounds have a GREAT coaching staf.

Corbin will be strong this year and should be penciled in for the region game, but it takes alot of things to fall into line to get to Louisville, you have to be a little bit lucky and really good.

Corbin fans are some of the most loyal fans in Kentucky. Its a little bit like UK, they can talk about their team and percieved shortcomings, but nobody else better talk about that, you gotta respect that they are only satisfied with the ultimate goal, winning state.

They took their lumps last year agreed. It just made a good team better. This year it will be almost impossible to match up to Corbins line-up! Five monsters on the line, both sides of the ball. Led by the likes of Nolan, Hayden, Taz, Martin, Taylor and CO. Big, Big, Boys and Strong. Then you have two awsome recievers in Madon and Wagers let alone Freeman, Sewell, French and Rossie, all very talented and experienced. Now lets talk about CJ, Fritts and Watkins, strong quick Running backs. Amburgy who will hit with the best of them. Last but not least Corbin has a double edge sword. Cashen the best QB in Kentucky, and to add fuel to that fire Campbell, a back you will have to double and triple just to slow down! This along with many talented reserves and you have the makings of the real deal. Thats why everyone is so excited. It's not every year things like this come together.
