2007 Corbin

Bell beating Corbin in baseball had nothing to do with this thread in the first place...

That's exactly right. The baseball forum has it's own category. Maybe the poster from Log Mountain ought to redirect his post.

I agree with you that the two schools need to play but it isn't going to happen, NUFF said. I also wish Corbin well, you have 2 fine young men on that team from Bell county and we pull for you guys often. Good luck in 2a

this year. I hope we have all mtn. teams in the state championship games.

Thanks. Good luck to you guys as well. :thumb:

Is Corbin's schedule set yet? I believe that they play Belfry, Dunbar, Bethleham, North Laurel, South Laurel, Somerset & LCA in the non-district games. The district teams are Middlesboro, Leslie Co. and Knott Central.

Who is Corbin playing in the pigskin this year? I thought they were playing Danville?

Danville could not commit for the next two years, so Corbin is playing Dunbar in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic and playing Belfry in the Pike Co. Bowl.

Those are two quality opponents and will make the Hounds better as the season moves along

I honestly expect Corbin to have their strongest team physically in many, many years. It should remind folks of some of the Corbin teams from the past.

Another really good non district schedule, put it together with two tough District opponents and Corbin has one of their tougher schedules in years.

Offensive starters returning for Corbin:

OL - Nolan

OL - Mocahbee

OL - Hayden

OL - Taylor

TE - Madon

WR - Sewell

WR - Wagers

TB - Sanders

FB - Light

QB - Cashen

Have to replace 1 OL with Simons, Martin, Nantz & Lewallen all capable.

French, Amburgey, Fritts, Watkins & Campbell(?) will be among those competing to start at the skill positions.

Defensive starters returning:

DE - Campbell(doubtful)

DT - Nolan

DT - Martin

LB - Madon

LB - Sanders

CB - Freeman

CB - Mitchell

S - Cashen

Corbin will have to replace 2 LB's(French, Watkins, Barton should head the list) and probably 2 DE's(French, Light, Nantz).

Is this kid new?

1. Horvath was a good QB, but it was mainly as a leader since he basically just handed the ball off on virtually every play. Baseball was his best sport.

2. Jackson was a good option QB who could not throw.

3. Grigsby was very similar to Jackson.

4. Duncum got to throw some in high school, but not much.

None of these QB's were asked to do nearly as much as Cashen has to, so I really don't see how you can claim that they were so much better. Duncum sure does not agree with you on your observation.

You obviously have an axe to grind..............what exactly is it?

I think Duncam was a better QB than Cashen. But Cashen is still a very good one. I think his hype may exceed his actual game. A solid QB, one that almost all schools would love to have. Smart. Good Decisions. Strong Arm. But no chance at All State or Mr Football.

Ryan Amburgey moved from Corbin while in the middle school and has now moved back. Hopefully the KHSAA will clear him to play.

Any news out of spring practice?

How will Corbin match up with Middlesboro this year and who will cashen go up against as far as quaterback?

Without trying to sound like a homer, Corbin should match up well with just about anyone that they play. With the exception of 3 or 4 guys, the overall team speed may not be as good as some teams. However, they will make up for that by countering with talent, smarts, experience, and know how. The line is going to be stronger as 4chs spoke of and the skill positions are going to be devistating once they get rolling. Cashen is good enough to make his receivers look like All State players and the receivers can be good enough to make Cashen look good as well. With Sanders, Fritts, Campbell, Watkins, Amburgey, Light, and others in the backfield, look for Corbin to always be fresh in the running game. That will help them a great deal in opening up their deadly passing attack. Cashen having a stout and experienced line for the first time since his freshman season, will only be better than most already know he is. Corbin will definitely have one of the better offenses in the state in my opinion.

Defense has always been something that Corbin has prided itself on and I look for nothing to change next year. With only a few losses off of last years team who turned out being a fine defense, look for the D to be even better. Josh Martin and Anthony Miller are the biggest losses at the linebacker position but Amburgey and Caleb Watkins should be able to step right in and fill their shoes. As with the offensive line, the D line is just that much more experienced, faster, and stronger.

Corbin will play a tougher schedule but are in position to win each and every game on there. I'm not claiming that they will because going 10-0 is a very tough chore but they can if they play to their capabilities. If nothing else, look for their schedule to prepare them for a long and possibly ultimate playoff run.

As for quarterbacks that Cashen will go up against, I'm not too sure. He should hold the upper hand in all the battles but I'm sure the Hounds will face some solid QB's. Leslie County, Middlesboro, and Lexington Christian always have tough quarterbacks and Somerset seems to as well. The most hyped QB Cashen will go against will probably be Ricky Bowling of South Laurel. Bowling doesn't have the stature or arm strength of a Cashen but he puts up very good numbers. I'm sure a lot of it is a product of the system ran by Coach Irwin and now Coach Chappell but Bowling is an outstanding talent that can pick teams apart if given the chance.

For most of his career, I believe, it has been his friend Kyle Nelson (Bell Co.) In their Senior year, no head-to-head battle. Tragic. A real loss for Southeastern Kentucky high school football fans.

This is very sad! I had the 2 in the same age group at Bell County's basketball camp when I was a player. The 2 are related and very good friends, but they always competed hard against each other. Its a shame they cant face each other their senior year! I dont understand taking rivalries away from the kids like that!!
