Newport's Cats Hope To Run Wild, WV's Aim To Bear Down

Records: Walton-Verona (8-2) | Newport (3-7)

Series History: Walton-Verona leads 4-2 dating back to 1998

Table Setter: Don't let the records deceive you. This game has more potential than the wins and losses suggest. Newport has faced the superior opposition - two time reigning 2A champion Beechwood, ranked Lloyd Memorial, and unbeaten Mason County - while WV traversed a less treacherous path. Schedule strength has a tendency to show up this time of year.

Impact players: Walton-Verona's offense runs through quarterback Jackson Smith. It's rare that he's not the best athlete on the field and he touches the ball every snap. If anyone is going to challenge him for the title of 'best athlete on the field', Newport's Quincy Barber is the best candidate. He's their leading receiver and defensive back, and has taken four kicks back for touchdowns.

I think Walton is down from normal years but I believe they still have enough to beat Newport.

Walton-Verona 35

Newport 21

This could be a deceptive one based on records of both. I think Walton wins but believe this could be a good game.

Newport wins the game. Walton doesn’t have any good wins this year.

I agree this could be interesting. I see WV as a 10 point favorite.

Which team handles adversity the best? That will determine the winner. Both teams will face challenges of one sort or another in the game.

It dates back to 2012.  Walton didn't have a team in 1998.  Their first football season was 10 years later in 2008. I think Walton wins this one, close early, but pulls away a little late.

I had the opportunity to watch Newport play Lloyd at Lloyd. I am going to take Newport in this one because they have some big play capability. I’m going with the upset 21 to 14.

This is going to be an interesting game. Walton really hasn't been too impressive this year as in years past. Probably a down year for them but Coach Barth is a solid coach that will have his team ready. Newport will be ready to play and will take it to Walton. This is a toss up.

I take the underdog Newport in this contest, WV doesn't look the same as they have in the past. However, you have to believe Coach Barth can get it done as he no stranger to #1 seed prior to the last 3 seasons of going through your district. Should be a good game.

This sounds like a pretty hard fought game so far.
