What big games has Borchers won in his time at Cooper to make anyone think his team can win a championship? I’ll give him this, he’s been to 1 state title game. But that was before Frederick Douglass and South Warren had a team.

Go to the post right above you to answer your question. Then after those years, Cooper schools did experience a gap where they hit a cycle where they simply lacked much talent, and had some down years no denying that.  You can talk to most coaches around NKY and even the state, and they all would completely disagree with your assessment.

CONGRATUALTIONS is in Order for Davis Burleigh for Breaking the School Record in Field Goals at Highlands, tonight in the WIN over Cooper High School, 34-5 GO DAVIS!

  • People suffer from short term memory loss. Where this program is now and where they were 2 years ago isn't close. Some people need to appreciate a bit more what is happening!

Congrats to Highlands on the win. Their defense played great, and their offense made just enough plays when they needed it.    Cooper had a lot of turnovers tonight, and when they did have a ch

Clay centers, Dante Hendrix, Jaden Jackson, Jarod Lonaker, Nick Meyers, Joe Poage, Jeremiah Lee, Tyron Chipwelon,Xavier Smith, Drew Warth, Anthony Witschey, Michael Spencer, Dominic Rulli. not to mention they had Zion Mason, RJ West, Jeremiah Williams. Don’t mention lack of talent. It’s lack of coaching.

Also the year Cooper went to state. The beat Franklin County who had 2 linemen suspended for the 1st half of that game for getting ejected in a late scuffle the week before.

All that Cooper this and Cooper that. Cooper is just another Boone county school with no shot at winning a state title. Seems to be the trend for Boone County schools.

You realize they are playing with several Sophomores starting and a Freshman qb!!!

Not to diminish the accomplishment, but I am curious how this was determined.  Honestly did not know Highlands football program kept these kind of statistics.  I actually got a phone call last night asking if it was my son’s record that was broken and I honestly did not have an answer.  A quick check of KHSAA website does show a season of 11, but honestly had no clue.  Anyways congrats to Davis Burleigh and may he keep adding to the total over the next 6 weeks.

A few of those names were all part of a few deep playoff runs, so they had success with them. Then three of the names you mentioned transferred from Cooper after their freshman years, so can’t say didn’t win with them, because they left before even getting a chance to use them. Plus now all three are at their third school in four years. Drew Warth missed his whole junior year due to a freak medical issue. Jeremiah Lee and Dominic Rulli both extremely talented, and doing well in college, which is great because they are talented but just good young men in general. Problem is as great of an athlete Lee is, he was not great as a QB and he had to play QB a lot because of not having many QBs in the program and then Warths injury. So they were very one dimensional with him as QB. Which all the players you mentioned are good young men though.

With that said while freshman success is not an indicator of future varsity success. Freshman seasons usually can at least give you an idea of talent coming through. Which that 3 to 4 years Cooper had a rough patch. Those classes their freshman years won 2 games, 2 games, 4 games, and 0 games which was the class Rulli and Lee were in. Lee played varsity that year and Rulli only played 3. So shows overall that class wasn’t very strong, as evident by not even winning a game. Which if you have 3 classes with not much talent and one with decent talent like the class that won 4 games as freshman. Overall it’s not going to transition well to much varsity success usually.

On the flip side it’s not a coincidence that the classes that followed that 4 year down cycle faired much better at freshman indicating more talent coming up. Which it was still the same freshman coach as those down year freshman classes, so coaching didn’t change. The freshman classes to followed won 5 games,  6 games, then 6 and 1 in covid year finishing tied for best freshman record in NKY, 4 games and now at 8 wins this year with only 1 loss.

The best way to know what I am saying has merit. Is how Cooper with Borchers had a lot of success including a state championship appearance, another state semi final appearance two years after that, followed up by a 1 point loss in regional championship the next year in 6A. Then those classes that didn’t have as much talented started to work it’s way up in high school and seen Cooper have a few down years with them. Now look once that last class left that also didn’t win a game as freshman graduated, Cooper ended up having a better season than they did in the previous 4 years. Now this year having another successful year and doing it with a lot of younger players. Which from freshman to Varsity it’s been the same coaching. So they had success before a certain 4 year cycle, and having more success again after a 4 year cycle. So yeah it seems my claim of overall being down on talent for a few years is very valid.

That really did not answer the question of who and how was it determined this was a record?

4 carries 9 yards Geisler had 11 for 158 yards.

Rushing for the Birds last night was 71 yards for both Giesler and Benke, 36 yards for Noon and 13 for Hosea. 191 total yards rushing.

That is odd. Here are the stats turned into KHSAA.

Highlands has had a guy doing stats for like 40 plus years! Maybe he knows?

BD5A6E16-DB34-4875-8A81-45F4A058D33C.jpegSo on the 18th (3rd Round) is when they start re-racking the playoffs based on the ratings?

Last night was for a single season. He is approaching the career record. I thought I heard last night that he needs 3 more for the career record but that could be wrong.

This is an awesome achievement for this young man and is well deserved through some very hard work and quite frankly I hope he reaches this milestone.

However… imo this type of stat is not a good thing for an offense. Tells me, Highlands needs to work harder and get better in the Go Zone and stop relying on the 3 pts.

When an opposing defense is really good then I get it, you take the 3 pts and move on, game may come down to a FG to win it and I really like Highlands chances in a close game with the kicking game Burleigh.

To be perfectly honest, the young man probably should already have the record, way too many 1st down turnovers in Go Zone.

Birds are getting better every week and the Koolaide is getting a shade darker Blue every week.

Wow! What a bracket!

RPI is used to seed round 3 - seeded by east side and by west side.

CCH and Highlands will have very difficult round 2 games.
