The game was closer than I expected. Cooper had a chance to tie the game a second time in a 1st and goal sotuation and and moved the ball backwards for 4 downs instead. Cov Cath had a chance to win the game by two touchdowns at the end, and their momentum in the last possession would have done it. They chose not to and opted to end the game instead.

Closer than expected? Yes.

"Very much up for grabs all game"? No.

 

I think the total offensive yardage tallies, when we see them, are going to be telling of how "very much up for grabs" this was.

How is a game that was a one possession game literally all game. With one team as you even mentioned being right there in the red zone with a catch that literally may have been just an inch out of bounds in the end zone. Not a game that was very much up for grabs?  Literally the only time CovCath really even threatened to make it a two possession game was the very last drive of the game to ice it. 
 

As for the yards it’s not going to that telling. Considering literally 90 yards of offense for CovCath came on one play on a 2nd and 27 on a busted coverage. Which that one 90 yard play broke what was a tie game at 7 to 7 at the time. So even then it still made it just a one possession game. So I’m not sure how a game that is one possession literally all game, with literally the other team threatening to tell it up in the second half too, not consisted a game up for grabs until the very end. The only time in the game when the game was no longer up for grabs, was when CovCath got their last first down of the game with 130 minutes left and Cooper out of time outs.

Here is a pic of the end zone reception that was literally inches from being a touchdown to tie the game with 130 left to go in the third quarter. In a game that was a one possession game all game, and took CovCath getting a first down with 130 left to seal it. Yet somehow this game really wasn’t up for grabs all game?

Cov Cath had two, maybe three passes to receivers that had a step on their defenders  that were "literally inches" from being a catch and a touchdown.

True and Cooper also had a long pass with a receiver that had a step on his receiver that their QB barely over threw. Another pass where a CovCath defender barely tipped it or else the Cooper player gets a huge game. 
 

So you are completely right a lot of ifs and buts for both teams, not just CovCath. The plays that were made though very much up for grabs. Also what is not an IF and is an absolute fact. Is that this was a one possession all game. With Cooper having multiple possessions to tie it up, and one where they were in the red zone. A game where the contest was very much for grabs until Covcath’s last first down. So I’m not sure in what universe how someone can say the game wasn’t very much up for grabs all game. But hey I get it, it looks bad for CovCath if Cooper gives them a much better game than many expected. So you have to make yourself feel better, by acting like nah it wasn’t really that close. Lots of respect lost for you on your stance on this. Have a great day! 

In most football games that are 2 scores or less, there are about a half dozen plays both teams can point to that were the difference in the game.

I was pretty convinced over the last week that Catholic was the second best team in 5A. A game like this with a young rebuilding Cooper makes me wonder a bit, though.

No. Especially considering considering Cov Cath has been underrated most of the year. Matchups matter. Cooper's defense and personnel match up well with Cov Cath. 

I will say it again. People always look at Cov Cath with an eye on their offense, probably because Coach Eviston is an offensive guy. But the key to Cov Cath under Coach Eviston has been their defense.  I don't know who their defensive coordinator is but somebody should be grabbing him to be a head coach if he is interested. @Colonels_Wear_Blue

• A nice win. Cooper definitely has some talent and will be pretty good the next couple of years. 
• We really don’t have another RB in the school that Eviston trusts to give carries to in close games? It’s a long season and it’s looking like we’ll need Owen Leen to be an ironman the next 5-10 games. 
• Hopefully Willie Rodriguez isn’t out too long, he’s really a difference maker in the passing game and either the best or second best player on the team. I think he’s the one guy at either TE or receiver that can generate a big play in the flow of the offense without Eviston calling a double move. 
• This ball control, not turning the ball over style gives us a really high floor. Unless we play an Elder level team (who just beat Cincy St X by 5 scores), we are going to be able to compete with just about any team. Ceiling is a to be determined however.
• Moving Aiden Jones closer to the line of scrimmage has been a great move by the staff. It allowed a good LB (Kruer) to get on the field and Aiden has been blowing up run games since he’s been there. Another 3 TFL’s and a sack last night. A very, very good high school player.

Is Tate Kruer the son of 1991 (I think that's the year) grad and outstanding football player Justin Kruer?
