I have beaten the dead horse of Owensboro's schedule for a long time .GIF 

Will this be the fire that finally burns down the mythical "city championship" house of cards that means about as much as Green Stamps these days.

For goodness sakes, Owensboro can only lose in these scenarios.  They are supposed to win by 50 every one of these games and that's not possible.  You play in the worst district in 5A, by a good margin.  That's not your fault, but come on.

SO, again, I'm suggesting they keep one or 2 on the schedule on the standard 2-year cycle, but keep the other/others off and rotate that one or two back in every 2 year cycle.  Communicate ahead with their coaches and then schedule Evansville schools or whatever to make it work, (South just played a good Gibson Southern team that close to you).  This is doable.

I realize some will say "I like these city rivalry games", "I think it's good for the community" , "We get a good gate".  Fair points; I'm talking about making your program better.  In 2020, when BG met O in the State Championship, one of the big differentiators to me was BGs schedule.  They were more prepared IMO.  It's your move Red Devils!

For some reason some schools like the really easy schedules to pad the win column and get the positive press. Also gets people on message boards bragging about win totals and such.

I give them major props for coming out of the gate scheduling St. X. But playing good teams back to back to back weeks in the regular season really helps.  And if it’s a good game attendance should be decent. Yeah, not as good as an in county school, but still.

Why the Covcath love? Are they really any good? I don’t think they are. They got destroyed in week 1. Then struggled with Lexcath. Struggled with a Class A team. Finally they beat a bad Dixie team. 

@Purple88 I agree wholeheartedly!  This is their (OC, DC, Apollo’s) superbowl, and it does nothing to help improve OHS to play Apollo, Catholic, DC year after year.  Play 1 every 3 years maybe.  But for Pete sakes quit playing these games!

I mean, if they played Fairdale, I'd take Fairdale for sure. And I consider Fairdale a lower tier JCPS team. But for the sake of argument, I give them credit for not losing thus far. 

I think there’s a bit too much love for the Georgetown teams in this poll. Great Crossing struggled against a now 1-3 North Oldham team; who was steamrolled two weeks later by 5A South Oldham (1-3). I know Crossing has the name recognition and the media coverage; but they just aren’t very good—nor are they making it past the first round of the playoffs in my opinion.

Although Highlands did get pounded by South Warren and lost a close one to SK, I don’t think that necessarily bumps them out of the top 10. There are plenty of teams, some of them ranked, who would lose those same games in similar fashions. Plus, I like the Raceland win—solid ballclub. 
 

I agree with @Cheese it’s time for some North Laurel love.

 

I’m not sold on Highlands being top 10 either. The potential is there, but the offensive execution is still bad.

I am not sure about the top 10 for HHS either at the moment but I am not as worried about the offensive execution. Post the debacle vs. South Warren since they have settled on some key offensive personnel, the offense has been quite efficient and balanced. Have there been questionable plays and execution? Absolutely, as there will be in every game. Since the South Warren game the Birds are averaging 36 points and 380 yards per game. The QB is 3rd in the state in 5A for passing (Total Yards and Yards Per Game). They have also been very balanced with 99 Pass attempts and 94 Rush attempts. 

Still a ways to go but they are playing well at the right time. We will know a lot more after this week with Ryle and the district is up for grabs.

In support of top ten consideration, Highlands is #3 in 5A in passing offense. QB Brody Benke is also ranked #3 in 5A. Noon is #5 in the entire state, all classes included, in receptions. Most are probably surprised by those offensive numbers. It does look like the Birds are struggling in the running game.

Shout out to Highlands place kicker Davis Burleigh who is #2 in the state in field goals.

Those stats are surprising.  The running game has been an issue. Noon needs carries out of the backfield. Or do some read option with him.

I like the two G'town teams at the low end of the poll, once they play, the loser is out of poll for good unless they win the remainder of their games.

GC should beat TTUN this season and if they do, I don't think a sister district team in NKY beats them in the 1st round.

I am starting to think Barren will win against North Laurel as well this Friday. Barren looks very senior heavy, and ready to avenge last season's loss.

After the MISTAKES GC made in the 3rd and 4th quarter last year? They definitely gave you guys that game last season. A Win is a Win, yes sir, but they gift-wrapped that one for sure. 

I was there for the 2nd half, I definitely saw a Little Brother mentality on the sidelines for the Warhawks. And it made sense with the turnovers they made. 

You guys aren't going to get that same treatment this year.

I will buy you a ticket and you can watch the game with me, so I can say I told you so when it's over. You're right they should have won both games last year which was their best chance in beating us until 2026
