Birds got the win. Raceland is a solid team. Discipline is going to haunt the Birds if they continue with the penalties.

Being at the game and seeing them in person, I believe Raceland has a shot at 1A against Pikeville. They have some athletes. A special teams touchdown right before half hurt and it just seemed like Raceland was tired at time with guys not coming off the field  great effort by the Rams. 

 

 

After watching tonight’s game, I feel like Raceland has a good chance at winning 1A. They have some good athletes for sure. Highlands needs to do much better with discipline, this could really bite them in upcoming games.

Agreed Hector. It’s not easy to come up to Ft. Thomas and play. I’m excited to see Raceland make some noise in 1A.

The Rams are a darn good ball club. 1A should be theirs for the taking, IMO. Good size and speed and some good skill players that can play.

Pikeville and Raceland seem to be on a collision course in the playoffs.

I was very impressed with Raceland. Solid team on both sides of the ball. 

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many penalties Highlands had? Seemed like a lot.

Agree they have some nice athletes and most probably a contender. But let’s remember everyone brings their A game against Highlands…

My point, if Raceland plays like they did tonight with the intensity and passion  they will be a tough out. 
 

They did appear to be a very mature looking group of young men though…

 

 

Calpreps, Lexington Herald and @teeroy had this as an easy win for Raceland. Not a great performance for the Birds but I will take it. Ryle will be a good game next week.

Still, I agree with you. I would not have picked Raceland to win this and the final score is about what I expected.

It’s a win which has been a struggle for Highlands for years now. I thought Highlands looked sloppy and disinterested. Especially in the 2nd half. The offense needs a lot of work. The defense made the right adjustments after the first series and I never felt like Raceland was much of a threat to score. 

Raceland put up more of a fight than I thought possible though. I’m not sure who their main competition is in 1A to say whether or not they’re a contender for a 1A title. As for Highlands, I don’t see them as a threat to any of the better teams in 5A right now. Improvement is imperative to contend for the district.

I Exaggerated a bit but calpreps did have it as a 14 point Raceland win at one point this week.

Which is why you put very little stick into things created by people who don’t actually watch games.

That is surprising. Calpreps is usually really good at factoring in the strength of schedule. If you look at Highlands and Raceland schedules and results, it is pretty clear Highlands was the favorite last night.
