Make-up your High School's greatest football team ever?

Featured Replies

The late, great Bishop David Falcons (football 1962-1983). An interesting trivia tidbit: David Bradshaw was selected all-district QB over.......Phil Simms!

Bishop David was known for staunch defense. Bishop David merged with Angela Merici to become Holy Cross High School in 1984.

Simms went to Southern High School

Didn't he go to UC for baseball?

From what I gather he did. He was a vaccum at shortstop, anything hit to him he would gobble up, fire you out from his knees with his cannon.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I can comfirm that Zeke hardly played his senior year. Can you say not very motivated and lazy!!!!!!

I am glad you will never coach my kids...

I am glad you will never coach my kids...

What is that supposed to mean?????

it means he knows nothing about football players...especially ones like Zeke Reynolds.

Here is a list of a few Newport players, that i have seen play. Here is some offensive from what i can remeber.

QB-Mike Shoemaker

RB-David Bedford

RB-David Simpson

WR-James "Shakes" Thomas

WR-

TE-Matt Atkins

T-Drew Rankin

T-Mark Switzer

G-Brian Pope

G-

C-

K-Jim Ross

That is all i can remeber at this time. I am sure some else can add to this, but these are the guys i remeber and had big years for the Wildcats.

From the 1980 team you had at G - Phil CHmabers / C - Tony Baldwin / E - Jimbo Clark / E - Clark Stephens / FB - Mark Guilkey this group went 11 - 0 during the season but fell short in the sub-district playoff against Connor -- that group of seniors (1981) went a total of 26 wins and 8 losses. Probably one of Murphy's better teams during his career at Newport along with the 1984 and 1985 teams.

What about class of '87 Scott "Kong" Turner as a tackle?

it means he knows nothing about football players...especially ones like Zeke Reynolds.

Zeke was lazy in high school...He was and is a great guy, but was extremley unmotivated on the football field...After high school is a totally different story...:ylsuper:

What makes you qualified to make that comment about me. It is obvious that you are very very close to the situation and don't like a little criticism. Me playing next to him and watching his daily work ethic makes me more qaulified than you would rather want to know. Sorry with his size and the program that he played in he shouldn't have had to walk on at UNLV.

Highlands Historians - In my haste to assemble a "Greatest team ever" I started at 1959 when the playoff system was put in place, and stopped at the 2004 State Championship team. My noticeable omissions which you have pointed out are as follows:

LB Corey Scarlotto - 92

K - P - LB - Ben Sutkamp - 86

OL - Sonny Miller - 91 ?

all purpose offense and defense - Matt Hoffman - 89

2005 - 2006

RB - Jordan Kramer - 06

OL - Ben Schlosser - 06

DL - Ron Ashton - 06

DL - Galen Kidwell - 06

TE - Ben Guiduigli - 05

Sorry about the omissions, and please add to it as you see fit. Have fun slotting them in where you think they fit.For a defense formation I used the old 5-4 Oklahoma defense format. For an offense formation I used a center, 2 guards 2 tackles, a tight end, a wide reciever, a quarterback, a fullback and 2 running backs. All purpose defense, a punter, All purpose offense, a Kicker.

These posts got me thinking. No one would ever guess the best defensive player on the 96 state championship team. He was the shut down guy for the football team and the basketball team but got little to no recognition. David Schulkers...

Well when you play for a moron of a coach, and your arch in foot wouldn't grow with your foot, I guess he would seem lazy to you. He was also very young for his class and a late developer.......Why don't you cal up Zeke and tell him how you feel....I am sure he would have some words for you...

Let it go... you can call me Lazy all you want as long as I am playing Div 1 college football and you arent. Were talking about all time high school players. Apparently some folks feel that he wasnt an all time HS player and was a late bloomer who got better once he got to college.

Somebody mentioned Scott "Kong" Turner 87' on a Newport Thread....isnt he Zeke Reynolds' cousin. How about those guys for Bookend Tackles.

I think they are???

I've been waiting for someone with a little more knowledge than me to do a Belfry High School all-time team, but since no one has stepped up I'll get it started.

Most of these guys are late 80's to present players and I'm sure I've left some deserving people off the list, but feel free to bring up all the guys I have left off.

I am just not big on personal attacks against a person from a family I respect a great deal.
