If Coach Markesberry is in fact retiring, he did a great job with the Pioneer program.

It is actually pretty common around the state for the coach to be the AD.

That varies by district. Just difficult to do both, but many do it that way.

Usually the AD is head coach of something, even if it is golf or tennis.

That's usually a district by district decision. I'd say it is not uncommon for AD's to coach a sport. In those schools where the AD also carries a teaching load, I'd say it would be very difficult to be AD, Teach, and coach, especially a sport like football.

Doubtful. He’s got 2 little kids at home, so I wouldn’t think he’d go back to head coaching yet.

Correct…he’s have to be interested in order to be a candidate.

I can confirm he's retiring from coaching and AD. Announced to his team on Monday. I'd say he built the program from the ground up, and unfortunately has had a couple of down season, but that should not define his career. He should be proud of the job he's done as both an AD and HC.

I was told he officially retires 1/1/22.

As for new coach. My picks are.

Steve Funke SK grad Twenhofel head coach.

Roy Lucas current SK offense coordinator and former head coach.

Nate Ponzer SK grad and assistant coach at SK.

Or someone outside with experience coaching defense.

Jeff did an excellent job of building the program and stressing character and community service. SK had a lot of really good teams in his watch. I have great respect for him as a man and coach. Well done, Coach Marksberry!
